Garmin Nuvi hardwire!

I'm trying to hard wire the Garmin Nuvi 350 navigation. I'm found the perfect spot for it to be immediately to the left of the rear view mirror. It gets minimal glare, and I can easily check it while still keeping on eye on the road. I've seen member RLE's thread about hardwiring the V1 radar detector, so I think I can figure out how to tuck the wire along the windshield and down the pillar. But that's where I get stuck.

Now, I'm a total ignoramus when it comes to things like this, so I have no clue how I would go about hardwiring this. I'm thinking of using this wire to start. Where do I connect those ends and how? I tried reading RLE's explanation of how he hardwired the v1, and I can't understand it. I don't even know what a spade connector is! haha...

Thanks!

Stop, do not go there. If you don't know squat about that, by own admission, then pay someone to do it for you.

You can do it, if you just us the power plug in the glove box. That way you will not be tapping into any wires.

Usually a sound advice... but doing it myself would give me that much more satisfaction. So I'd like to try it, unless doing so could seriously damage the car in some way.

To plug it into the glove box, I would need some kind of an end for the stripped cable above, no? Is that something I can get at RadioShack?

Is this something I should just give up and pay some guy?

Looking at my Nuvi 350 plug-in power cord, it seems to be about the correct length already. I would try using that without any cutting of wires. If there is extra slack in the wire, you should be able to just hid it above the headliner. The only issue I see is that the wire is round instead of flat (like the V1 power cord), so it may be a bit harder to slip behind the trim and headliner. Let us know it this works for you.

But most importantly: "Do no harm!"

Where did you get the power cord? Did you buy it, or are you referring to the AC adapter?

And are you suggesting that I route the wires right to the glove compartment, or left to the fuse box?

Thanks much!

Just the power cord that you use to plug into the lighter socket. (But I also have the bean-bag mount since I do not like using the suction cups to the windshield.)

This morning I installed the V1 on my wife's new C300 Sport. It took all of ten minutes. You should be able to do the same with the Nuvi. Just plug the power into the glove box socket; route the wire out of the glove box on the far right side; hide the wire under the weather stripping edge until you reach the top of the windshield; then run the wire across the top of the windshield, tucking it under the headliner.

No need to remove any trim or cut any wires.

Had you read his request, you would have seen that he wants to mount it to the left of the mirror and you cannot get past the upper console that way unless you go through it.
