Quote: I would never put in a full tank of gas. That is well over 100 lbs of ballast right there. A quick search on the internet saw gasoline density from 6-8 lbs/gal. I even told my coworker to fill up halfway and he said he noticed about 1-2 mpg improvement w/ a halfway fill up. That's pretty good considering cars nowadays are at least 3000 lbs.

Road trips are different since you'll be on the highway most of them. Not much acceleration is necessary (unless you feel the need to go 150 mph)
As long as prices are increasing, it makes since to fill it up and keep it full. Because if you wait, it will just cost more!

Quote: JESUS CRHIST.
What city!?

The most expensive I've seen around me is 3.99 as of yesterday.
I saw $4.27 in South San Francisco, and I've heard sightings of a $4.76 at one point in San Mateo (a little farther south). Fear strikes the heart of man.

I like my neighborhood across the bridge.

Anything under $4 per gallon is very cheap in Los Angeles, getting more difficult to find it though.

wow, you guys don't get much fuel. I have an 08 GL320 (diesel), and at $3.99/gal a fillup usually costs me $110.

I travel a bit, so I fill up 2+ times per week on average. 600+miles per tank normally.

Here in Phoenix it's $3.30 for Premium at Sams or Costco. So to fill up it's around $50. But I'm not complaining. To fill up my Suburban or Hummer I had, it was around $100 a tank for the same tank range or less.

So no complaints from me...
