Yes, as long as the overall diameter for the fronts and the rears are not off by too much.

I'd actually be careful about that. the AWD system doesn't just feed off of rotational comparisons, it also gets feedback from traction. Wider fronts will fake the system into thinking that the rear is loosing traction. Where I noticed the worst reaction (in an E 4matic) was on diving into turns. The car would lean forward hard then think that the inside rear was sliding so ESP would kick in. It really made me slower, eventhough I put wider tires in the front. I'm sure it can be done properly, but do your research so you'll be happy with the final.

I thought the C300 4matic already had a staggered setup when you buy the car, mine has 17x7.5 22/45/17 and 17x8.5 245/40/17???

the 225 front is 45 and the 245 rear is 40. So the front tire walls are 101mm thick and the rear 98mm or 6mm (0.24") difference in diameter. So the perimeter of front and rear wheels are 78.4" and 77.6" respectively, or roughly 1 rotation difference for every 78 rotations. Unless the ESP has a very low tolerance this should be OK.

In reality the 40 and 45 are approximation (likely both tire walls are 4" or 101.6mm), which translates to 45.2 for front and 41.5 for rear and tire manufacturers just use 45 and 40 as proxy.
