Has anyone taken the dash/stereo apart yet? For iPod install.

Hi

I was wondering if anyone has taken the dash apart yet like the stereo and whatnot? I'd love to do this, to install an iPod kit myself, but I have still been unable to find any instructions for this newish car.

Do you think they'll be some someday? I'm really anxious! ha-ha.

I have never install iPod connection yet but to take apart headunit

use a skinny flat tip screw driver and ply out the ac vents from the sides

If you have a non MM package car then be careful cause it is glued on in the middle

then there will be 2 plugs take them off

then 2 torx 25 screws take them off

2 clips that slides out behind the screws

gently pull out the head unit and remove all the wires

I suggest you just use the Aux input. The sound quality is great and is under 150.00 OTD installed at the dealer. I don't think the IPod kit is worth the price and has it's drawbacks.

On the W204, AUX input sounds terrible. Low volume, dramatically low.

For me, the price of the ipod kit if I did it myself isn't so bad. However, I appreciate your caution! What do you do for controlling it though by the way? You leave the ipod itself outside the box? I hate seeing mess in my car.

got_thang? - many many thanks!!! great instructions!!!

About the glue, just carefully pull and the glue will let it come out? It isn't necessary, when putting it back together?

THanks

i wonder why they didnt put the AUX in the storage compartment where i can actually reach it while driving.

in the Lexus IS250 the AUX and 12V is inside the centre console, that would make more sense in my opinion!

These are the things needed so you can have this kind of set up:

1. Buy from ebay an 8 or 12 feet Aux cable( make sure buy the cable with small diameter) connect it from aux input from glove box and tucked it in or conceal it around the edge of the center console.. 8-10 Bucks!
2. Buy from ebay, a groud loop noise killer, to get rid of the hum noise..and it also increase sound volume for $6 bucks plus shipping!
3.Buy from Pro-Fit International universal miMount , use a 3M double sided automotive adhesive. works great even on high temperature..
4 You can add Boostaroo sound amplifier USB powered.. connect it to the cigar plug behind for constant power..
5. and a Monster ipod car charger (optional)you can also plug it behind for constant power..
6 add an SCOSCHE aux plug adapter (L shape adapter) for easier connection from ipod audio output.

Thats it!..take less than an hour to set it up! with less than 100 bucks costs..and Enjoy your music! you have full control with your ipod!

What about this?

http://www.mercupgrades.com/IPOD+Ret...rticle-35.html

I really want to do this, but the kit is $430 and the dealer is telling me it's 1 1/2 hours to install.

Still on the fence...

Yeah that source is going to be helpful, if I ever decide to do it.

Yeah, the cheapest delaer I found wants $650 installed, one wanted $750.

That is why I've found some places where I could get it for like $350 just the kit, if I could do it myself. Hopefully I'll get enough info and do it someday.

I also have to drive a ways to the dealer, so saving $300 plus miles and time, is what I'm looking to do.

I went to the Mercedes parts counter and they wanted I think it was $425 for the adapter and cradle. My Service adviser said they would require at least 1 1/2 hours for installation, so $650 dealer installed sounds right.
