+1 on everything. Except... I hear the new 7-G gets better MPG than 6MT. I could be wrong. I still love my stick though.

Love the manual. It's, you know, funner.
What cars does Mercedes offer the manual transmission? C-sedan and the roadsters? Wish it was an option on the clk or some other 4 place coupe.

C300 MT, 350Z
i transitioned from my 350z to a c300. the Z is of course more aggressive and still sits in my garage yet the ride of the C is incomparable. ive driven m3s, mcoupes, 5series, eclasses, ml classes, 3series, and none compare to the smoothness of the C. very pleased. but i will always love my Z, its just too fast to say no to

On the Z, I had a JWT lightweight racing clutch and flywheel... the overall feel of the car with the flywheel/clutch and notchy shifter made the car tiring to drive but VERY fun when you're pushing it. The benz is just smooth. I can't feel my gearshifts at all in the C, it's so smooth and buttery.
I also found out about the hill assist just last night going up a hill. I remember test driving the 335i and the hill assist was awesome. I completely forgot to check if the c300 had hill assist. It's freaking AWESOME.

Most drivers of manual cars meet or exceed the EPA mileage figures. Most drivers of automatic cars get less than the EPA rating.
Various testers (including Consumer Reports) have verified identical cars with manual transmissions get better mileage, and have better performance, than their counterparts with automatics.
More gears help the automatics, but not enough to offset the losses from the torque converter.

When I say less fuel, I am talking about real world consumption, not EPA ratings.

If my feeble memory serves, the prior generation C-Class offered 2 different 6 speed manuals on their cars. The Sport versions of the sedan and all versions of the Coupe got the shorter throw manual. Now, only this shorter version is offered. How "short" the shifts may actually be may be a matter of debate.

I agree. I drove the 6MT when the 08's first came to the lots and posted essentially the same thing then.
It's very smooth, very easy to drive. All that being said, I went ahead and got an auto because I live in the city.
And yes, the listed MPG is better on the auto (in reality that may not be the case though).

I asked about the manual instead fo the auto and was told it would be a special order. Everything else about the car was what I wanted (and MB could supply) so I took it. I hate waiting.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
Another thing...if the auto is better on gas, why do they not offer the E85 option on the manual version? I thought it was because it's easier to manipulate mileage.
I wouldn't call it a short throw shifter. I like it though.
