I know that some options are available on the euro C class that arent available in the states, hence the blacked out buttons.
but seriously, why would I pay close to 43K for a car that still has buttons that are dead front and center that dont work?
that doesnt make any sense. passengers in my car will think that i didnt opt for something. I know that one of them is the rear sunshade, one of them is the sport button for euro models. what are the other two buttons for?

Okay now. Even I don't care about/notice empty buttons in cars.
And yeah, when your friends see that not every button is filled in your Mercedes-Benz, they're gonna think you are such tight-wad.

You must have very superficial friends if they would worry about what equipment or buttons your car has.

I believe if you get the base model with no options the dummy buttons are gone altogether.
I've seen people making the blank buttons functional, such as a garage door opener button, digital compass display, or a discrete Valentine radar detector LED display.
I've also seen some non-functional novelty buttons that has some funny icon printed on actual OEM buttons which are also illuminated. They were for VW Golfs and Jettas.
Maybe someone should find out the part number for the functional European buttons to replace ours with, hopefully the part also includes the back lighting.

Like Flame told:
Left knob is for the Dynamic handling Package, if you push it it will reacts more on the gas pedal, the suspension will be more sportive. This is also a blacked out button by the most of the EU drivers. This option cost 1500 euro's.
Than you got the button for the sunroof
Than we have the Parctronic button, to deactivate it.
So this one is US-less in the US.
And the right button is not named anywhere in the brochure...
If we order the Standard model here in the Netherlands, you don't have the buttons. Like CJH's car.
@ CJH : Cheap ***

C350 Sport 4M
I noticed those blanked out buttons too :P rear sunshine.. and then a few mysterious missing buttons.
I should relabel them as "engage shield"..."disengage shield" ..."arm missiles". now THAT would be impressive and a good fix

+1 you pay the half we pay here for the same car.... The C350 here starts with 56.000 EURO and than we get a standard car without any options. So if we take a fully loaded C350 we pay about 64.000 Euro so its about 85/90K Dollar....

The SL has a bunch of blacked out buttons around the shifter and you pay A LOT more for that...
It is a cost cutting move, because in the old days MB would put on the buttons neccessary and when those buttons were surrounded by wood the wood would be cut for the buttons there. With the previous C, E, CLK to cut down on the cutting of different sizes of the holes for wood, they just made one or two strips of buttons with blacked out ones.

I thought I had noticed that I saw an image of the buttons "decked out" somewhere ... looked and looked, and finally found this image in the manual. "Fully featured" provides a "Sport" button (part of the Dynamic Handling Pack - affects suspension); a rear window blind button; a Parktronic Sensor button ... and here's still one button left blank ...
It is what it is ...
