iPhone 3G Charging Problem
Hey guys,
I have a problem with my new iPhone 3G and the iPod interface in my '08 C350.
My previous iPhone was able to charge and play music using the cable in the glove box, now with the iPhone 3G it no longer charges.
Any know fix for this?
Thanks in advance.

You could play music on your original iPhone?!!! Mine says something about unsupported accessory. It charges it but that's it. Am I missing something here??
Can you do SMS messages on the 3G version?

Holy %*$#, after thinking it didn't work just went out and played with it and it sort of works for me. It won't seem to switch books for me, I only have Audible content on my phone. I'll have to load in some songs and try it again. Didn't mean to HT.

My iPhone 3G doesn't charge either. :/
As for playing music through the iPod integration, yes it has worked. You can navigate through audio content (artists, playlists, songs, albums, etc) through the steering wheel.

My assumption is that all ipod/iphone generation up to ipod touch, iphone (non 3g), nano 3rd generation, and classic are all support firewire charging (12v), beside usb (5v). I guess the new 3g iphone and other future release ipod/iphone only supported for usb charging.

They must have changed something in order for it to detect iphone 3G vs. iphone edge devices for compatibility. Unfortunately, it sucks, especially for Mercedes who just came out with a dock for a phone that no one is buying now that the 3G is out. Doh!

Actually, no -- only a few older iPods supported the firewire charging. The newer ones come up with an error message and basically say "no".

To clear everything up, all iPod models, including the iPhones can charge via Firewire, however, only older iPod models can transfer data via Firewire.
This means the iPod adapter in the W204 is a USB interface.

note: I don't have 3G iphone yet, nor ipod kit. But if you plug in non 3G iphone and it says 'accessories not compatible.....', most likely it does not transfer data digitally (over USB).

That's true, but it did that with the old iPhone too.
Geeez...Apple doesn't like to play nice with an integration kit designed just for their damn products.

So, considering that the iphone 2.0 (3g) is out selling pretty much every other phone in the united states, and worldwide sales are the through the roof, and the phone is already on pace to outsell the first iphone twice over, you would think that MB would be making some sort of statement of future support for this phone specifically. I Hope they do soon....I already put in for my 09 with the iphone kit.
And I agree with the above statement of the new dock......what a waste of resources designing something that will only work with older Iphones. I would imagine that they would have requested a white paper (with all the NDA's) on the iphone 2.0 10 months ago when apple announced it was already in development. I work with several companies that did exactly that, And they released software and hardware that worked with the phone at launch.

I think that adapter dock will still not make 'accessories not compatible...' thing disappear. It needs authentication chip in order to make those annoying notice disappear.

So with the iPod MB integration kit, since it doesn't charge I assume it drains the battery on the iPhone 3G while in use?
