How to treat really light scratches?

So I bumped into someone this morning, the front right corner of my bumper has some light scratches, it's nothing big and unnoticable but the scratched area is dull and not shiny like the rest of the bumper.

My car is the normal black color, is there anyway to treat those light scratches? They are not deep or like chipped paint it's just the surface, I just want it to be shiny again.

Hmm you might be able to buff it out with some form of wax or maybe a cay bar.
Depending on how big the scratches are, you can try to rub them out with your thumb- not kidding. I've had three scratches on mine and they all have come out with some rubbing with my thumb. Ha.

Clay bars remove contaminants from the paint and have nothing to do with scratches.

Normal scratching and dulling are slightly different as well. Did you scuff the area as your description sounds like it?

I'm assuming you know little about detailing a car and such otherwise you wouldn't ask the question so it's hard to give direct advice as you may be confused and we may be confused on exactly what kind of damage was done. I'm not sure if you need to be aggressive and use rubbing compound and then apply a polish or glaze and then wax or a simple paint cleaner and then coat with wax is fine.

If unsure you may be best going to a detail shop for assistance or this may be a good opportunity to learn detailing. http://www.properautocare.com/

Without actually seeing it, just by your description, you might be able to just buff it out.

Try some Meguiar's "Scratch-X". Rub it real good with a foam wax applicator and it should take the scratches out, if they're not too deep.

Then wipe it off and put some of your favorite car wax on top.

Good product for mild stuff. Auto zone sells some stuff from 3M that also works good too.

Id start will a lite polish, then the wax. It wont come out perminently no matter what method you use, but it will to the trick and just repeat it as needed. If it really bugs you and you cant fix it. You can call these companys that come to your house or anywhere you want, they can do it cheap and very good. Only if its on your bumper. NOT on metal. Maybe take a pic and post it so we can have a better look.

If the above don't work because too deep try wet sanding 2000 grit, wipe off, catch a reflection that will enable to to see any left over scratches. if only minor ones or none power buff lightly with cut polish, then swirl remover, then wax.

2000 grt is a very fine grain so burning through the clear should not be an issue, sand- look-sand-look in multiple steps. Also take it easy on the cut polish too as it is very easy to burn through to the base coat - then you're toast - repaint time.

If not comfy with this take it to a polish shop.
