So you think it's funny that the 1-series is priced around 40K, yet you acknowledge that it isn't even in direct competition with the C-class?

You didn't mention the options, the fact if it was a coupe or convertible, or if it was a 128i or 135i. And almost nobody ever pays sticker.

It is quite a sticker shock though if you're not looking for a small, heavy, ugly, 300hp coupe that goes like a bat out of hell. Very limited audience and they know it.

But, just like the A3, it's their way of starting to get americans used to the idea of premium priced small cars.

I guess it would be a suitable car for single people - who don't play golf.

Story: was in parking and saw a nice 135, one of the rear seats was folded down to accommodate a set of golf clubs in the trunk.

I speced one out a while back, and thought...I'd rather have a 3 series for close the same $. The 1s are quite small. And, it's not what BMW originally represented.

The base 135i has big potential as a great car for the track.
Not as luxurious and well equipped as the 3-series and if you add on the options the pricing overlaps the much nicer looking 3-series.

It's too bad that we don't get the nice-looking 1-series hatchback that's available overseas.

a 0-60 in 4.7s coupe BMW for $40k is not so bad IMHO.

only 200lb light then the e92. might as well buy the e92 and enjoy the better look and space. personally i think people that justify their purchase on the 1-series saying it'll be great on track are stupid. a Lotus Elise for the same price does the job on track much better. Hell...for less money a VW R32 is roomier and has 4wd and DSG.

base 135i's still $35k i think. 328i coupe can be had for $37k with manual or $38k ish OTD with auto. I rather have the more sophisticated 3 coupe.

I agree that the 1 series is overpriced. When I was looking for a new car I was shocked not so much at the price but at how little it comes with and all the packages seem way overpriced. I was also very disappointed with the salesmen at several different BMW dealerships. They were all arrogant *******s.

That being said I test drove a 135i and it was sick. It is ridiculously fast and fun to drive. If the salesman wasn't a dick I may be driving that right now.

Oh and at least at the dealership I was at they refused to negotiate at all.

The 135i can get expensive... but that thing can get very fast w/ very few modifications. You also get the handling and softness that BMW is known for (and which everybody tries to copy). It might be the ultimate "little" GT car. Expensive, but if you are looking at that segment, I believe they are a better alternative to the A3 and the MB C coupe (yuck).

I don't think they are that ugly... I just happened to like the looks of the 3-series a lot better. And it was too small to drive my parents around.

i have priced out all the cars in the w204 class in my search for my next car.

seeing as i live in california i have to get bluetooth, and i would only get an automatic.

if you get a 128i on carsdirect.com with bluetooth and an automatic

its almost $1000 more than a C class for my zip code (with the same options).

since the C class comes with a sport package and power seats i added those to the 128i also and it makes it something like $3000 more. not to mention the 128i is uh.. .fugly.

I really do think the 128i is super overpriced. a comparable 3 series coupe is only maybe $3500 more, and well its nicer looking, larger, just about as fast. and far roomier

Like the 1 series doesnt seem to make any sense. maybe if it was $3000 less than it costs now, it'd at least have a point. otherwise why not just get a 3 series?

the 128i is around $28 base and $32k with decent options. better choice if you are picking up a car this small imo.

R32 has it beat on a track. The 135i is a great little car, but BMW missed their own point.

I'd rather get the 3-series coupe for that absurd price.

BMW 1 Series
I was at the BMW dealer today, saw the 1 series, wasn't very impress at all, the body style was boxed like...looked horrible.....but loved the 0-60 speed response!!!

It's not much to look at and it's smaller and expensive, but it's a fun car to drive. I'd suggest test driving it honestly. Won't appeal to everyone, but there's a niche out there,
