new record: 34.5 mpg on 57 south over 30 mile drive
i had it in cruise control at 71 mph, freeway was wide open, ac was on low, did not hit breks or gas once in the 30 mile route
once i got off the freeway and was on city streets with a bunch of stop lights, i reset and the gas milage non freeway was only 18.1 mpg
why is it so much lower on the streets! pisses me off

A couple of weeks back I logged 33.9 for an 82 mile trip from San Bernardino county to Mission Viejo. At the 40 mile mark I was at 39.8 !!
I frequently get 29 mpg on my 50 mile commute to work across LA freeways.
39.8 is crazy, congrats...were u going downhill?

most possible you could get would be 35 on relatively flat surfaces

My previous tank got about 20 mpg. Today's drive got 32.7, from start to finish, a total of about 52 miles. If I had reset once on the freeway and showing 30 mpg, I suspect it would have been higher. Oh well.
The computer seems to do a good job of remembering how to get good mileage, if you let it. Today's commute was about 1 mile on each side of a 50 mile freeway drive. The speeds on the freeway were held by cruise control to 64 mph.
You gotta love a car that gets 7 mpg more on the freeway than the EPA claim.

Today I thought... what happens if I try "comfort" mode?
Well, one effect seems that the transmission "freewheels" on deceleration, without that compression effect. I don't think I need to go to neutral.
I'm going to leave it on comfort mode for a while and see what the outcome is.

BTW, I think it's cheating to hit reset once I've reached the highway. I always use the trip computer from startup in the driveway, including city streets and stop lights when reporting trip mileage.
My 39 mpg stretch mentioned above included the initial overhead but the overall trip ended up at 33.9 due to the city streets at the end.
I had an instantaneous mileage readout on my Jaguar and it was fun to watch it max out at 99 mpg from time to time!!
