HID FLICKERING

I have an aftermarket HID kit on my car...but was wondering if anyone knows how to solve the flickering during initial start up?..I've read other forums and they said that you can add a capacitor or something?...do those work and if so how do we install them?...thanks for the help.

Yeah.. If it only flickers for a sec or two then it's the ballast system. The efficency rating is not great on those kits. It's drawing to much power on initial start up. If you don't have the capacitor is only for the warning light error or sometime what will happen is that it will turn on, then a few seconds it will turn off. What the capacitor does is to trick the computer that the HID kit is still running a 55 watt output like your stock halogen bulbs, since most hid kits runs at 35 watt.

did your car come with halogens stock and just added the hid kit? Also are the ballasts directly connected to the battery or the head light harness?

if your ballasts are directly connected to a halogen head light harness, thats your problem right there. HIDS take up less wattage then halogens but they use up double the amount of amps during start up.

Just be warned most stock halogen head light harness's are not designed to handle that many amps, so you do run the risk of burning out your head light harness.

Your better off connecting it directly to the battery with a harness.

You use can also try buying used oem ballasts which use up a lot less amps then aftermarket ballasts.

Yes capacitors are a must on w203's. It got rid of error msgs and flickering. They work really well with my $60 HID kit. There's a thread about it. It's been over a yr problem free.
