I was 19 in 1989 and very, very anti-gun. I remember watching the 11 o'clock news each night just to see how many people got killed that day. On a day when no one was killed it seemed like they made up for it the following day. It was as if it was some kind of game or something. These people took pride in being murderers.

Well, anyway. I was carjacked that very year. That really reinforced my anti-gun stance. Facedown on the ground with a gun pressed to the back of your head is a life changing experience to say the least. It's no wonder why the only topic I ever debated in my college speech class was banning guns. Little did I know my views would do a complete 180.

1991- I was walking out of my apartment holding my 6 month old son while walking with my wife of 4 months. It was 3:22 PM. It's as vivid today as itwas then. We were walking to our car about 75 ft from the apartment swimming pool with about 40 swimmers enjoying the beautiful day. A man came up behind me and stuck a revolver in my back and asked me for my car keys. I slowly put my son on the ground and walked to the car while my wife grabbed my son. Lucky for us all he took that day was the car.

I can't really describe the emotional affect it had on me that day. And I hope no one reading this ever finds out. To be helpless like that is beyond any explanation I can give. All I know is my life changed that day. I told my wife that I would never let that happen again. So I bought my 1st handgun the next day. It was a Sig sauer P228. I carried it with me for 6 whole yrs even though it was a felony in the state of Maryland. It took being a victim to realize that the police are there to take reports. They can't possibly protect you or me 100% of the time. Not even 1% of the time. That's reality. So I took my chances. I remember my wife reminding me each time we went out if I had my gun.

So for those that disagree about gun control. I was just like you. Perhaps even worse but it took being a victim to change. I don't expect this will change many minds but it sure changed mine. I'm an advocate of keeping our rights. Right now gun ownership is your right. Don't let anyone take it from you.
That must have some enormous emotional rush, I'm already feeling high just from reading your story bro!

My wife and I have been thinking about buying a piece for the home, but I'm afraid I might change once I know I have one.

Some times I carry my Springfield XD Subcompact in the center console. Perfect fit but I never left any arm in the car unattended.

Hey, thanks. I've seen that one, but didn't think it would fit in the console. Please PM that photo if you get a chance... Also, did you bolt it in?

To c3nthusiast, I'm very sorry that you had that experience. As I've said before, I hope most folks never have to be in that situation. I also hope you never will be again. Does Maryland not offer a CCW license? That's just stupid if they don't. btw, that's a funny pic with the AK and the glove box.

Take care, everybody.

The aftermarket armoring firms probably have these options too - Google "mercedes armoured cars".

Should be able to get the holster / part that fits your needs.
That's a good idea, thanks. If anyone finds a good option out there, don't forget to tell us!

I’m sorry but this is pathetic.
I can’t imagine shooting someone point blank because they are trying to take my car or for any other reasons. That said, I’m totally against normal people being able to purchase or carry guns, be it licensed or not.
I live in the Netherlands and am very happy that even carrying a firearm can lead to a long prison sentence here and I shouldn’t worry about my kid getting shot at the school, I’m not saying that no one gets shot in this country but compared to the US is uncountable.
Peace be upon you all and let’s leave all the firearms where they are suppose to be, in the hands of law enforcement people and off the streets.

I'm not trying to be witty or insensitive to the terrible ordeal you had to experience but my question to you is, what would you have done differently in that situation if you WERE armed at that time?

Would you have quickly put your son down and drawn your weapon? Do you really think having a weapon would have changed any of how that scenario went down? Your best, and only option in my opinion, would have been to do exactly what you did - let him have the car without giving him any reason to discharge his weapon in the vicinity of you or your family.

Nobody would take a Mercedes on a hunting trip. Park the thing in the woods and head out and it would be either stolen or destroyed by vandals.

So while we're talking about gun storage.... Does anyone know where to get a brush guard for the front of my C300? I've been destroying the front end on my hunting trips! The 4-matic works great in the mud and muck and the lift kit I put on is just great!

Oh, and I found this out: Blood is easier to wash off the pano roof than you'd expect after you strap your kill to the dealer-available ski rack! However, make sure the sunroof is closed first!

Try www.ClassicIronDesigns.com they carry tons of brush guards ...

And, they might even carry those "Lincoln Lockers" you're gonna need when you hit that next bog.

And, do you have those weathertech plastic floor panels? Great to keep the muck from those Wellingtons off the carpet!
