Fix Paint Chips Ad

What your thoughts for using this product on our cars for the tiny paint chips, saw the ad on TV. Claims does not leave the little blobs on paint like touch up.

Guys please post back. I wonder how it would look over time. Maybe I won't have to buy a clear bra. ha. Yeah right, but yeah maybe this would help.

It lets you order a specific color it looks like too.

I purchased a product just like this in early 2007 (paid twice as much for it) and the little bottles in the ad look just like those that came in mine.

My Obsidian black C320 did not have nanoparticle clearcoat like the 204 and was easy to damage. So, this looked like it might be worth trying, even at 40 bucks.

The way it works is, you apply their touchup paint via a small brush into all the chips, wait a while and then apply some of the white milky liquid from the tall jar (not nearly enough, as it turned out) to a small cloth and go over all the repaired areas until the paint appears level. You then wipe off the haze with another cloth the kit includes.

Bottom line, the chips were not filled and there wasn't enough magic elixer left to do the job again.

I would not waste money on this product.

The website indicated in the ad was dabnsmear.com and the WHOIS record turns up Dr. ColorChip as the registrant. A quick search for "dr color chip" reveals a website with a nearly identical product using the same dab & smear application method, but costs twice as much. The search also turned up several other user reviews dating back to 2006. The results seemed to be mixed with the better results achieved on darker color paints, but none of them were as easy or as successful as the TV ad made it appear. This appears to be a rebadge of the Dr ColorChip product at half the price, which may not be too bad to try as long as the S&H isn't outrageous.

http://drcolorchip.com/
uses the same ROAD RASH package
Id say this comment is very legit. there are mixed opinions at benzworld going by the product name drcolorchip.

That's the name I was trying to recall. So it is the same product at half the price. The Dr. ColorChip version came in a nice finished wood box which must have been the other twenty bucks.

My Obsidian Black C320 was about as dark as it gets and I was not satisfied.
My recommendation not to purchase stands.

Not even better than using touch up though?

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
This is funny. I was just getting ready to order some touch-paint when I logged on.

While detailing my car last night, I discovered a very tiny chip (smaller than a ball point pen tip) on my hood just past the clear bra.

I would like to know if this stuff is better than touch-up as well.

Not sure of his name but there is a forum member who owns a body shop on Foster Ave in Brooklyn, I would sure like to hear his opinion on this product and whether or not if it could be harmful to the finish. So far it looks like the product works but there may be an issue with the liquid not being enough.

I just ordered touch-up from the dealership. You'd have to have a lot of chips to run out of the liquid stuff. If you have that many, maybe a re-spray is in order.

touch up paint from the dealer is like $20 right? Just got my tints done and i found this on picture #2. Called them up and told them that one of their installers looks like to me a razor blade mark took some paint off so they told me stop by and they might pay for the touch paint from MB. Touch paint from MB is $20. Its 35% all around by the way. was very mad when i saw this mark.

And i just purchased this from Ebay: MB 040 Touch Up

Yeah. It was just under $18.00. My chip is so small, I need to get a real fine brush.

I have an old horse hair brush that I cut one hair off each time I need to fill a very small chip. One stiff bristly seems to hold just the right amout for the tiny divets.

Paint chips

Just yesterday, I had 5 dings from stones on the hood touched up at the MB dealer on my black '08 C350 . I went in to buy touch up paint, (be sure to use MB brand paint if you do it yourself), and the service mgr. refered me to the guy they use to touch up their used cars before resale. He did an excellent job in about 30 minutes and I can barely see the places he touched up. It looks brand new again. Best of all, he only charged $30.

My dealer does not have a body shop, so they refer all that work out. This guy does many dealers in town, (Birmingham, Alabama), and also does other things like windshield repair, dent repair, etc.

Bottom line......check with your MB dealer first to see what they would charge and only use MB paint. He said that metallic paints are harder to do because the mix of metallic flakes doesn't always match up with what's on the car now. Another reason to not do it yourself or use non-MB paint.
