First Wash

Hi everyone...
I am going to wash my new C300 for the first time...
Should I use a wash mit (MB sells this) ? Is the wash mit good?
Also, what should I use to clean the wheels (brake dusts)?
What do you guys use to clean the exterior & windows?
What should I use to dry? Microfiber?

Good question re the windows. Someone recently dissed use of Windex, something bad, but I don't recall what.

Now that the days are getting shorter, I'm seeing that my windshield needs a thorough cleaning from the inside. What to use?

For the windows just use vinegar and water. If you have tinted windows us a soft cloth (I use diapers) for the inside and believe it or not use newspaper on the outside. If the glass is real bad I use Bon Ami (outside only) and a sponge.

check out www.autopia.org . It is a great detailing forum to get advice from. Or you can check my thread, since I just tested some new DoDo Juice products.

Buy some quality stuff. I buy from these guys, http://www.properautocare.com/, but you can go to alot of places.

Be especially careful with the wheels. I only use P21S - safe, PH neutral, German made. Microfiber cloths for the interior and good deep ply wash mits are effective. Meguiars generally makes good products. Don't use windex, use SprayAway or Stoners Invisible glass.

NO NO NO!~ never use windex! leave that for your house, actually MB sells an aerosol spray that works really well, i think its the same aerosal that any dealer has TBH. if your looking for some good stuff to wash, wax, and clean that leather or MB-tex, look at Zanio and Meguiars.

I like using Invisible Glass spray. It's my new best friend. +1 on avoiding Windex.

Use microfiber when you can.

On the contrary, Invisible Glass is excellent. It's what the Concours people use. Windex leaves a greasy film that shows in the sun.

I always sucked at getting perfectly clean glass until I was turned on to Invisible Glass. It really cleans well and almost magically avoids the residual residue.

You know what, the key is making sure that the towel/rag/whatever you're using doesn't get too wet with that spray.

I'm with you on that one, Invisible Glass and SprayAway are good. If you really want strong glass cleaner, the Wurth glass cleaner is it.

I've tried every glass cleaner almost: Invisible Glass, Spray way, Perfect Glass, etc.

Until I found Meguiar's glass cleaners. Changed my life. Two choices, both just as good: Nxt glass cleaner, sold by the bottle, or Detailer line glass cleaner sold in a gallon that makes like 11 gallons (just be sure to use distilled water to make it).

You normally can't find these in stores, so I buy online.

They are so superior to anything I've used. It's amazing.

i recently bought all Meguilar's products and love them all, a vast improvement to what i was using before. the Nxt glass cleaner works great, so does their Quik Detailer, that one is my favorite. Gold Class Endurance High Gloss for your tires is amazing too, really lasts a long time.

there is a reason so many people recomend their products, they are one of the best out there.

also, spend the money and ONLY use microfiber towels and wash mits. its really worth it both to protect your finish and to not have that pesky lint all over your car.

The best thing about the first wash, especially after coming out of an 8 year old car, is that it is so easy to wash everything off, tar and all.
I went out and bought a lot of new supplies to start off right with the Benz. Washed her for the first time this weekend and loved the results.

washing your own car is great on a variety levels for me. #1 all the supplies are like 80 bucks (for top of the line stuff) and should last 8-10 months; so for the price of 4-5 "good" car washes i get like 40 that are up to my high standards. #2 you are able to do a really do a very detailed job. i garuantee you many places do not do the door and trunk frames like i do. i actually get a tweezers and grab all the leaves and stems that get caught up in the trunk frame. #3 i think its fun and relaxing.

I agree with you on all of those points especially the last. I call it my Zen time where I don't think about anything but the wash and wax. Sure when I do a full job that takes 8 hours or so I get a bit sore (I'm old) but it still feel relaxed afterwards. Though it does cause some stress when I find a new scratch.

Since I usually just deal with light dust, I can sometimes go weeks without doing a traditional wash.

I use the quick detailers from Meguiar' with 3-4 clean microfiber towels and clean the entire car every 2-3 days.

I like the Mothers product line they have been good to me and i stand behind them, my father was a professional detailer and i wish i could get the things he used but don't have room for all that stuff. Meguires is good but the gold class wax doesn't last to long. The Mother quik detailer is very good, i think its better than meguires. My friend and i use alot of different products, we usually switch off every couple of months just to try things out. Mother is by far the best so far.
