Consumer Reports - C-Class on "Recommended List"
Just recently announced was that 6 Mercedes-Benz models have made the Consumers Reports "Recommended List". These include the S550, E350, SL, ML, SLK and C-Class. There were no MB models on the list last year. While the overall ranking is only 27th (from 33rd last year) which shows there is still a ways to go, at least MB is clearly headed in a good direction.

Has the C-Class ever been on Consumer Reports recommended list prior to the2008 model?

Consumer rpts
Way back before they published recommendation lists, the 123 and 124 models were praised. Their comments about each were "best sedan we've ever tested." They have been more restrained since.

Here in The Netherlands was a consumer satisfactions trophy in a big car magazine. The C-class W204 had the 3th place off the middle class car's.
They wrote:
They will be verry satisfied by Mercedes, the C-Class clears the other German brands in customer satisfaction. The C-Class has a good quality impression, there are little strange sounds (engine, wind etc.) The only thing is that the C-Class has not much space inside the car
, not in the front and not in the rear. And they say it's an expensive car for what you get. But his image makes everything good.
reliability 88%
performances 89,5%
looks 92,6%
Comfort 86,2%
Costs 82,6%
On the 1st place is the Honda Accord, 2th Lexus IS, 3th W204, 4th Audi A4 5th BMW 3-serie...... so the W204 was better than the Audi and Beemer![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Overall score (so all categories, MPV, Compact Class, Executive class) for the W204 was the 19th place of 106 cars.

wow...the pdf version is pretty mean looking...not sure if that is the best look for the E Class but MB should use that front end on something...CLK is first to mind...

The real E
The too-close front view of the white car is indeed it.
My subscription copy of Auto Motor und Sport (#23 October 23) , printed in Stuttgart twice monthly has a five page article on all the new Es with photos. AMS showed the W204 in similar layouts early last year before production started and proved to be accurate, unlike the lesser German car mags. The E sedan shows the traditional five-bar grille with LEDs only in the lower intakes with what looks like the fogs in the headlight bucket inboard of the Bi-Xenon light. The rear is particularly attractive and the car shown is a silver E350 with a Pano roof..
Also shown is the E Coupe (no more CLK) with flares front and rear, BIG wheels and a slightly pointed rear bumper cover. The pic of the E-Class Cabrio is a heavily cleaned up image, identical to the Coupe with the top lopped off. Both the Coupe and Cab use the big MB star two-bar grille, C-63 style with the upper frame attached to the hood.
The CLS Shooting Brake is the little P-1800 style 2-door wagon with the pretty face and useless letter-box rear hatch.
According to the article, there will be (for everybody but us, I'll bet) a direct injection gas engine, the 250CGI plus a 200CDI (136PS), a 220CDI (185PS) a 250CDI (204CDI) and a 320CDI (224PS) and later on a Hybrid combining a 3.0L V-6 diesel (224HP, actually 224PS which is slightly different) combined with a 15KW integrated starter-generator mounted between the engine and transmission.
It looks like the engineering department has been burning the midnight oil.
Much of this is written in technical German and it's mostly too much for my limited skills.
The Coupe and Cab will be shown at the IAA which is the Frankfurt Auto Show which is in September. It looks like the sedan will be shown at the Geneva auto show which I think is in the Spring.
Separately, they have a one page road test article on the C250 CDI Blue Efficiency with performance numbers. 0-62mph in 7.0 seconds, . Top fuel economy is 5.2L/100km, somewhere around 45mpg which is not bad for a 3600lb (empty weight) car. The car is on skinny 205-55-16 low resistance tires which means Prius-like braking and cornering, I'll bet. Still makes 155mph, so they claim.
Much as I love my C300, owning one of those E Coupes would be a good thing.

E photos
For photos of some of these, go to www.germancarzone.com
Also, click on this link (***Wimmer Munich Sightings Part...) on the right side of the home page
for some great car pics from Munich. Ever see an S8 or S-Class taxi? And look at what the Police are using as cruisers. No Fords there.
