That Full Tank of Gas in a New Car

Just curious if anybody knows after working at a dealership.

Im still on the tank of gas that came with the car from the dealer. its edging towards empty. i was going to wait until the light comes on and then refill with Chevron Premium (91) so that i could make sure that quality gas goes into the car from then on.

however, just wondering if the gas was put in at the factory in Germany, or at the dealer here in Cali.

If its from Germany, then im guessing its good quality since they probably have octane higher than 91.

its only bad to let it fall below 1/4 because of all the gunk from previous gas stations. since its a new car with only 1 fillup in its lifetime, that means there is no gunk in there

lol...my first fill up was at QT with 87 octane...the great Atlanta gas shortage a month back really pissed me off at my first fill up...was glad not to be pushing though

don't worry too much 1 or 2 octain different will not make any difference to the car. (maybe few hp difference since the car adjusts itself depends on gas)

The cars come with about 1/8th of a tank from the factory. The dealerships fill them up from there.

The dealer fills the tank as part of new car prep. Do you realize what it would cost MB to fill every tank at German gas prices? Furthermore, in case of a shipboard fire, use your imagination.

Never ceases to amaze me what comes up on this forum.

surprised to see comment that sayz 91 octane are good petrol
over here there r 98 octanes
in japanese there r over 100
lets all use avgas

though it doesnt matter that much anyway since our engines r not high compressions

Avgas is leaded. Use it and destroy your O2 sensors and your cats.

There is no such thing as unleaded aviation gasoline.

the highest we got in Cali is 91 octane. thats the "best". although, know of once station in nor cal that sells 76 branded 100 octane racing fuel.

The us fuel octane ratings are not the same as the rest of the world.

Not exact, but close: US+4=ROW

I used to run a 50/50 mix of ethal and avgas in my 66 mustang pushed through 2 holly 850 four barrels when I used to street race in the late 70's. Boy did that engine scream. And I am also glad my brother wrecked it before I killed myself in it. He cracked the front unibody coming off a wheelie, we could get the front wheels off the ground about a foot and a half.

I dont really get what the difference in gas are, but i am curious.

I have noticed that on my 911 (w/ straightpipes) the car screams & is more 'gurgley' sounding when i use arco or costco gas. It sounds smoother & quieter when i use Shell or Chevron... why is that? I cant tell any difference in the C350, perhaps because its so quiet. I always use 91 octane.

theoretically, octane doesnt matter in modern day cars because the ECU will adjust the engine to accomodate the gas you put in.

however, they say that higher octane will give you improved performance hp numbers as well as improved mpg.

however...my theory is to just use chevron, or to choose any top tier gas brand. the reason being is that im sure the additives they include in their gas have to be good for something. so really, seeing as how chevron markets their gas with techron, it is supposed to keep the engine clean running.

in older cars that dont have advanced ECUs, the car will experience some knocking.

my god i remember why i dont step in the W204 forum. Took me 25 seconds to want to leave.

He is asking a logical question.

Gas from the factory is less than 1/8th of a gallon due to fire risk in transit. The port does not fill them. It is part of the PDI to put gas in the car. But it is pretty common to get 87 oct in your car now that everyone is trying to save a buck at the dealership level.

I pick my cars up at the VPC and they are always BONE dry on gas so my fist move is always to the Chevron station 1 block away for that first tank of gas. Thats where I yank off all the plastic wrapping and seat coverings.

Im sorry but this topic cracks me up!!!

Dont be so paranoid!!! just put some good gas in your car and your fine.
Dont worry about mixing your gas its all gona go anyway. MB or any other make for that matter dont make cars that will get wrecked on a few tanks of gas with low grade. Continued use of low grade gas will SLOWLY start to give you engine deposits over TIME! not on one or even ten tanks.

What do you mean, straightpipes? Knowledgeable Porsche owners are well aware that low end performance suffers when the stock muffler is removed.

It is not really bad for your vehicle but there are a few things to keep in mind. First, you will have reduced power and fuel economy as the engine electronics have to retard the ignition due to the lower octane gas. This should keep the engine from "pinging" as well, but under some high demand situations such as heavy acceleration, steep uphill grades, etc. you may still get some pinging. With the electronics on the C, it would take a while to do any real damage, so don't worrry about it as long as you predominantly use 91 octane.
