X-Pipe or Stright Pipe?
I have been looking at getting the X-Pipes, and after checking out many threads and looking at the pics of the install, a thought came to me. Why not just delete the resonator and weld single 2.25" pipes to each exhaust path? Why does the exhaust need to cross, such as with the X-Pipe? It might be a stupid question, but I was hoping someone could shoot an answer.
Thanks!
Thanks!

crossing the exhaust mixes the gas from different banks of the engine block, producing even gas flow to both pipes at a faster rate (as suppose to pulses of gas)
straight pipes will output gas uneven due to the firing order of the cylinder blocks...
does this really effect performance? i'm not entirely convinced since the we are talking about a relatively smallsize v6 engine... if anything, it will probably allow a smoother, quieter sound.

yes, ofcourse. I meant quieter, smoother sound compared to cutting a straight pipe like the OP suggested or even a H pipe...

Think classical music vs hard rock music played at the same volume.... :-)

X pipe is not a noise suppressor what it can do is smooth out the gas flow as suppose to the tumbling gas caused by order of firing blocks... so the sound is even and smoother, hence gives an impression of quieter sound...

For me it is personal preference. Check out the YouTube Clip of the C300 with the Xpipe, it sounds killer IMO. Not too loud, but when you step on it, you can hear a sick rumble. I would love to get the AMG C63 Exhaust setup, but it is waaay to expensive for what you be getting. I am going to get the X-pipe for the sound and do the quad tips and C63 rear for looks. I have heard people say that they have magnaflow exhaust, but I fear it to be too loud, but I have not heard a sound clip, so I do not know, just assuming.

X-pipe does supress resonance by canceling pulses, it improves the sound quality and refines the exhaust note making it sound better. Also improves scavenging effects.
Bottom line... ALWAYS do X-pipe if its possible.

Has anyone installed the x-pipe and not been happy with the sound?

Someone posted a link to www.autoanything.com and I bought it there. I assume it would fit a C63 but IMHO I would not alter that car. I bet your car sounds great just like it is........

white and whiter
should fit the C63, but as loud as the C63 already is I doubt you want to attract more attention from cops. was reading the C63 forum and someone said he got a warning from cops for the exhaust and the kicker is that it is stock.

The magnaflow ones are ok but the better route to go (which now most of the W210 E55 guys use) are the ebay ones. Not only are they stainless instead of aluminized steel, but they are polished, they have a smoother core (not a conventional stamped steel design) and they cost roughly half the price...

I would say that it would depend on the welder at the muffler shop. I just ordered the X-Pipe from MagnaFlow with the stamped design and be done with it. I have alreade spoken to my muffler guy and said it is no problem to weld on and would take about 30 min to switch up. If the ebay version had one that was 2.25, I would say go for it, but I would stick to the 2.25 inch.
