I got my car three weeks ago, but havent had a change to activate the sirius radio.

this is my first car with sirius so i have no idea if its good. well i went online to activate and there is a $15 activation fee. if i call in, can i talk them into waiving it? or is it something ill have to suck up and pay for the free 6 months

I called Sirius when I was at the dealer to have it activated and I didn't have to pay anything. ( They didn't even ask for a credit card )

Try calling instead of doing it online

After delivery of my C300 last year, I ignored Sirius for a while and so they contacted me wanting to know why. There was no activation fee at that time nor any discounts offered as I recall.

In any case, I no longer listen to broadcast radio.

the dealer activated mine.

I didn't think I would like it - after 3 weeks, I found I wasn't listening to regular radio anymore. So I subscribed to a 3 year plan offered by the dealer for around $9 per month.

Many other makes are going with 1 year free subscription. Main problem of Sirius is high compression of audio stream so sound is crappy and it is noticable with new MB HK system.

There was no activation fee when I activated mine at the dealership, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to charge people for it in the future. I had mine for six months, I really only listened to two channels on it. The sound is bad, there are just as many comericals on it as broadcast radio, and they make a habit of playing the same songs over within a few hours (blame that on a recorded set of songs that a computer plays).

There are now a few stations in my area broadcasting in HD and I'm sure more will follow. Some of the new MB models (R class I know for sure) have HD radio's for 2009, great quality, no monthly/yearly fees, still have to listen to comercials but at least they are for local businesses and you get local weather and traffic updates.

It should be free for the first 6 months including the activation. You have to call them and then give them your VIN # I think...
