No dice on this issue yet. There are quite a few members on the forum that live in Europe as well as myself. There basically is no fix for this yet. The Euro maps don't work at all on the US system. Sorry.

Shawn- I thought about changing the region code for the dvd player, then try the navigation disc, and see if that might work.

Galdish- U can find used commands on german ebay, they usually run about 2000 euro, if u buy, its a D.I.Y. to install, u can find instructions on youtube, no need to mess wit the dealership to replace, just Mo Money!

I kind of worry about changing the region code on it as you can only do that so many times I think its 5 times or something like that. I'm going to ask the dealership here again about it and see if they have a disc I can borrow, maybe I can copy it as I have a program to make movie region free. However, I doubt it is that simple or they would have done that already.

Thanks a lot guys for your advices. I've already tried to select ECE in the engineering mode of the Comand but it still doen't want to read the European DVD. I'm sure there is something I don't know or I do wrong about it because this is possible on a S-Class (W221) and both car use the same navigation system. Please do not hesitate to help and I'll try on my car. Thanks in advance.

By the way, if you want to change the region code as long as you want you could press "hang up button+#+*" in the "remaining change" of the engineering mode and it will reset it.

The W221 navi device is NTG3 while the W204 device is an NTG4 unit, these are not the same at all even if the menus look pretty similar.

C350Driver : Yes it works properly. You have to select the European mode in the engineering menu.

Diesel Benz : I was thinking it is the same... I leave geneva tomorow for 1 month and in the meantime my MB dealership who is a friend keep my C350 and gonna try to do all his best to convert my US Comand to an Euro Comand. I'll keep u informed about this evolution. In the meantime if somebody thinks about try something let me know and I will informed my dealership.

Or how about, buy a Euro Comand and sell your US Comand here on Ebay to offset the cost

I was thinking about that... I have time to look for a solution but if I don't find any of it I would do that or do an exange with somebody who have the same problem in the US with his EUR Comand.

Hello everyone !

This is my first post =)

Galdish, I got the same problem.

Need to load map of Europe in 2009. MB C-class with US navigation system.

What is happening if we "change US mode to ECE", what do we accpomplish with that ?

And, is there a solution for loading Europe map in US car ?

Thank u very much !

I have a US-spec with navi. I contacted two dealers here and they both said that the software for the maps are written by different companies for North America and Europe. Therefore, you would have to change out the hard drive which is pretty expensive.

Does this mean that different versions of the navigation system run different operating systems? That's interesting. I don't know why else you'd swap out the drive; normally a distribution CD/DVD could just replace the installed software.

I figured a DVD would solve the issue as well, but the dealers here had to call into the almighty MB tech center and were told that it was not possible to load the European maps onto a US-spec C-class. I was told, however, that this is only inherent to the C's, and the E-class on up is able to have either/or.

I was also told that the new SUV on the market has the same problem as the C's because the hardware and software is identical.

It was real bummer when I found out, because the morons at the US dealership I bought it from had said it was possible with a DVD... I called back so they don't tell anyone else the wrong story.

I seem to remember, One forum member bought a European spec Comand and switch the configuration in the Eng Menu from ECE to US, and was able to load the US MAPs via DVD successfully. I have not heard anyone go the other way - US to ECE and load Euro MAPS, though.

I recently had a customer who had updated his W211 Comand with a US software update, we have now tried resetting, updating with ECE software, changing map software and nothing works.

According to HQ the only solution is to reflash the internal EPROM, I am guessing something similar is rquired for the NTG4 204 Comand.

Holy cow! Are you sure about that? I have both region 1 and region 2 dvds. I'd love to have limitless changes...

EDIT>> I found confirmation in another thread. Super cool! I'm very excited.

Is the problem as simple as the DVD. Since US DVD's and Euro DVD's are not compatible, could you find someone with Euro DVD reader to burn it to a harddrive and then copy it to a US DVD?

Which hard drive are you referring to actually? DVD media is the same all around the world, burning the Euro DVD to a PC hard drive (as an image) and then back to a DVD does not make things different (except that a burnt DL DVD is harder to read than the original).
