smoked or clear side markers on steel gray?
I'm leaning towards clear but wondering if any of you have pictures so help me decide.
Also if someone can explain how to install them, I hear its pretty easy.

I love the clear ones I have on my steel gray...I am on my work pc so i don't have pics right now....PM me if i forget
Clear looks great because it matches the headlights so every light from your car is clear...i like that all the lights look the same when they are off (i do have clear bulbs, but they produce amber light so at night cops can't ticket me).
Smoked to me felt like you were trying to hide them or make them blend in, but it doesn't work...i would only like smoked if you smoked the headlights too so they all were same tint

there is a thread you can search for, but you basically:
1. go in wheel well and pull out 3 plastic plugs
2. bend back plastic in front of tire to get behind side marker
3. unhook side marker from inside and detach from light bulb to remove
4. replace new clear (or smoked if your ) side marker by screwing in bulb and then rehooking to the inside piece in wheel well
Step 4 was the hardest part for me and took the longest amount of time on the first marker because you have to clip it to the inside which you cannot see. Once I got the first one the second one took me about 30 seconds.
First marker 20 minutes
Second marker 5 minutes
I took my time on the first one because I was being careful because its a new Mercedes and also because I have never done any work on a car before including never changing my own oil although I could prob figure it out. I am definitely no auto mechanic so if you can figure out how clip one thing into another you should be good.

After reading posts and checking our everyone's pics for a couple months, I ordered my clear lamps today. I think they look better on pretty well every color.

I like smoke on dark cars and clear on light ones. Cars that fall into a middle ground are tough like yours I would like to see both in my mind I see smoked better. And how about Red what would you think for that color?
Smoked on Darth, yes I have stealth bulbs on order they should be here by the weekend.
And I liked the overlays better it really hid the orange except when lit or when light reflected off it.

I say on steel gray, body matched paint. And add resistors to aid with the bulb out. I guess im not a big fan of these fat orange sidemarkers. The clear ones IMHO are a bit too shiny... thats just me tho. Could smoke them but I think they'd still stand out too much.

So I installed my clears on my black car this weekend and I like them a lot. 2 downsides - 1) The Polarg's I stuck in there can be seen from the outside, so you can see the blue coated bulb, but it doesn't look that bad (and it's really white when lit up), 2) the top corner of the marker is not flush with the car, it sticks out a tiny bit. Anyone else experience this? I'm wondering if water is going to get in there. I wonder if I should try putting something between the corner and the car so moisture doesn't get in. Any suggestions or people with the same issue? I got mine on eBay from someone named Jorden.

I prefer smoked markers on Tenorite Grey, I almost got them, then found out they were illegal here in Vancouver Canada (I have several friends/friend's friends that got pulled over for a $106 ticket just coz the marker isn't amber...)
and they are all different cars too!

What's legal for the US is a yellow reflector on the front side. So anything you replace it with is technically illegal. Why do you think MB put that on our cars in the first place?

I've seen pictures of euro w204s and they dont have it, looks much better, way cleaner.

Off course there are the yellow bulbs in the headlight assembly that can be seen from most of the area beside the car. I highly doubt any PD in ATL would know or care about the difference...they have more to worry about around here than nit picking federal regulations.

My markers are so dark that they blend right into the bumper, plus i've gone through plenty of road blocks and noone has said anything... i guess they dont even notice they are there. Next best solution is to get a body shop to fill it all in then you can just say 'er well the car came like that' ...

I guess its a matter of luck, I was so close in getting them too, then decided to just leave it...
And ever since I found out I've started looking at other car's side markers and realize if the car doesn't have an amber marker, that car's lighting assmbly will have an amber strip of some sort...such as BMW 3s...

you are absolutely right, the euro W204s looks very clean, and I'm happy you never got into trouble with the markers, but this is the same as window tinting, here in Vancouver, front driver's side window tinting of any sort no matter how light is still illegal, but lots of ppl still do it and risk getting pulled over...

I haven't bothered to tint my C yet because black on black will surely give you some police attention :P
