Black Tailight Ring

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a black taillight ring to put on my car. I know ron jr. has one, and a couple others. I was wondering where did you buy them or did you buy the chrome ones and then painted them black? If so, where did you get the paint from?

Looking for something like this:
https://mbworld.org/forums/2707936-post46.html

p.s. I'd be willing to pay someone a little extra to have it done for me and ship it out.

Thanks!

Daniel

Thanks for the reply. What black did you use? How did you paint it? (Spray can?)

Funniest thing I have ever heard! (No offense Ron, I find it a little weird to "name" your car and actually refer to it by that name as if it's an actual person. But don't get me wrong, I love star wars and always will. )

Actually I didn't name it someone else here or one one of the other MB forums siad it looked like Darth Vaders car and I liked that so had the Darth name plate made. I used regular automotive spraypaint, I should have used a clearcoat also but was a bit lazy. I might be repainting them in the spring.

I appreciate the honesty Yea I might buy some actual metallic mercedes paint to paint mine but have to figure out where to get it or will just send it in to the shop to have it done.

Any Auto parts store should have spray touch up paint that is close. Very important get the chrome off, paint does not adhere to it for long. I used some fine grit sandpaper but I recently read of someone using rubbing alcohol and the results looked amazing no chrome left at all, though a light sanding to help the primer grab is a good idea. And if you are not happy with the color then you could go to the bodyshop and have it done. 20.00 USD or so in paint is cheap next to a bodyshop doing it.

cf vinyl's not cf. i think that's what the banned guy was saying. too much negativity recently...

did you buy one of those really thin sheet of pre-made CF sheet btw? I've seen them a few time, but they came in sheets that are really small and expensive as hell and you can't really bend them to form.

personally i like CF if it is used in a functional way for reducing weight while retaining/increasing strength, im not a big fan of piecemealing CF all over the car because then it just looks... well, piecemealed...

Yea same, that's why I tend to buy real CF pieces (spoiler, diffuser, lip) because it's lightweight and looks damn good. I was going to go with CF vinyl but honestly it's just not the same and might be "too much" CF.

if you are going to do the tail light covers, get them sprayed at a paint shop. However, in the interest of having different mods than others I'd suggest to you that maybe you try something a little different. For example, I considered color matching the covers to give it the S550 color strip effect. Why don't you try that? Whatever you do, make sure you get it painted and clear coated at a paint shop.

Thanks for the tip. Yea I want a professional paint job done on it. Do you know how much ruffly they should charge for it? (Shouldn't be too much as it's small, eh?)
