Unfortunately it seems to just be the design. I know when I went from my S to my E, I noticed a bit of a difference in overall interior noise right away, now that I'm used to the E, I find it to be damn near silent, and when I drove the C, it was just totally loud IMO.

With every level up they seem to put alot of effort into sound deadening, and insulation, etc.

Also, I think M-B makes the changes by the MY, not by the build date? If you have the new Instrument Cluster, I'd say you definitely have a full blown '09.

If you open the left and right trim panels in the boot compartment, where the first aid kit and fuse box are located, you can see those bare metals. If you lift the boot compartment floor, you can also see that all metal surfaces next to the spare wheel are all bare. This the the source of cabin noise. The BMW 5-series had most of the metal surface covered with damping materials. I don't think the wing mirrors are the source, as I notice most noises come from behind.

Waiting for W204 Facelift
probably 09 is more expensive !

I do not understand miror noisy technically I use 05 CL203 and even high speed I did not notify noisy from mirrors .

09 mirrors are part of Blueefficiecy Models's Aerodynamics Design including and coming with front and rear apron new design if you think replacing only mirrors to your cars they may not give you positive result

My '09 is crazy quiet. If you guys think these cars are loud you must REALLY be used to MBs. My Cooper S would have deafened you. haha.

I was pleasantly surprised that it was significantly quieter and more composed than I could recall from my test rides.
Thanks for sharing, its nice to know. It must be a nice experience doing a European delivery, wish I had done the same. BTW, were you able to negotiate prices with Euro delivery? or was it basically MSRP?

yea, most of the noise comes from behind. not only the lack of dampening material but also the thinner backseats (or maybe just with p2). They do not block out any road noise at all.

However, the side mirror noise is very distinct and only becomes apparent when you are driving +70mph over a long period of time. Some people don't notice until you point them out, depending on their driving experience. Coming from a bmw 528, it is very apparent and annoying.

They usually have a set Euro Delivery MSRP, which is a couple thousand or so lower than traditional MSRP...then you negotiate from that.

7% Discount and....

The EDP prices are not negotiable as you are not buying the car from the delivery dealership, but rather MBUSA. The pricing has a fairly nice 7% discount of the MSRP + all accessories; you also do not have to pay the $875delivery charge. In my case I was buying a 2009 very early in the model year when the buyer USUALLY does not have much leverage with the dealer compared to buying a left over 2008. Anyway, the EDP is nice because there is no haggling, no ups or downs or dealer packs and add ons.

Another plus is that the pricing for the delivery trip offered by MB Germany is subsidized by MB and offered at substantial discount. The current Black Forest/Alps Rally trip is just $1300 per couple and includes 5 nights at luxury (5 star) properties, all breakfasts, and a couple of 5 course dinners (wine included). If you apply to the regional chamber of commerce you may also qualify for a buy one, get one free, coach air fare deal.

5. Burl Walnut wood trim available in 300 Sport, NC option in 350 Sport.
6. All season tires available with 18" AMG wheels in lieu of summer performance tires.
7. Noise, vibration, harshness improvements (quieter).
8. 2 GB increase in hard disk space allocated for music ripping in MM package.
9. Refined auto transmission responsiveness (less lag demand down-shift).
10. Added red LED compass display to inside rear view mirror.

The much quieter interior was really noticed during my European Delivery trip when crusing sections of the Autobahn at 110 MPH.
Any pics of #3?

Here is a picture I took in Germany; note the loaner windshield mount GPS wiring.

A bunch of minor items that add up...

The delivery technician said the NVH improvements were the results from an ongoing program to further refine and improve the sound and vibration.

As I recall a few of the items mentioned were: 1) shipping more vehicles with quieter OEM tires (Michelin vs Conti), 2) underside bodypan/fairing isolation and sealing, 3) minor door seal installation and alignment procedures, 4) and airflow over side mirror mounting arms.

The cumulative effect of these, any probably a bunch of tiny tweaks, is a signficant improvement to a very high standard of quiet and composure. Subjectively, the car sounds as quiet and composed at 110 MPH as it does at 60 MPH. Engine is very subdued, low wind noise, quiet suspension on smooth road surfaces, OEM Michelin Pilot Hx nicely subdued; overall, a great background environment for the MM HK Logic 7 to do its thing.

So I guess the airflow over side mirror mounting arms fixes the wind noise issue? Glad they realized wow, any pix of the 09 mirror mounts?

I notice the GLK has the new winged side mirror as well. Are the NA cars just getting the production leftovers? :-)

Check with Boblingen, Wurttenburg and Munich

You need to use your browser to get to the official German Tourism website and then follow the links to the German states and major cities you will pass through (e.g. Boblingen for Stuttgart, city of Munchen/Munich, etc). Theses will list deals tied to buying a tour package in their region in exchange for subsidized airfare in conjunction with MB, BMW, or Audi EDP. Even if you don't find a 2 for 1 airfare you will likely find other useful discounts and coupons.

I could not quallify back in September 08 because I did not stay long enough in any particular region. BMW as offering a 2 for 1 on Lufthansa, but the base ticket price was inflated so that the savings were not better than ordinary advance ticket purchase pricing.

I don't know if this has been mentioned above, I think Mercedes also adds new pelvic airbags to the seats of 2009 C-Class.

The beige interior, newly offered in the Sport models is different than the '08 version (C300 only) in that the dashtop and steering wheel no longer match the rest of the interior but are a darker beige, almost brown.

I got one, the classic Mercedes signature sticker on the windshield is now clear and die-cut instead of the giant opaque white sticker.

You mean Side-Airbags? I thought all M-B's had pelvis-side airbags way prior to '08.... Or do you mean they changed the design/built them in the seats on the new ones.

Interesting. I wonder if they're doing that with all new M-B's. Do you have a pic? Dye-Cut means that the words are alone without a background correct?

Yes, pelvic airbag (hopefully the picture below shows, and it is the one with the red arrow points to.) I don't know about other Mercedes models, but for W204 C-Class the 2009 model has the pelvic airbag in addition to the side airbag.

With best regards,

Ah. Wow, nice, I didn't know about that. I'm sure it's an addition to all '09+ M-B's, another M-B revolutionary safety feature.

With best regards,

Very good upgrade from MB. I worked in a trauma center for a couple years and side impacts can be extremely damaging to hips/pelvis as they are just about bumper level....

That will work for low impact, where a lot of injuries do occur from movement and impact with the door and interior moulding.
