Are you sure it is Sirius? I don't know about ML but on the W221 the traffic info comes from the FM radio broadcast (US and Europe).

That looks like a good alternative if you didn't get the factory MM system. Does the factory system not have traffic info in the US? I have traffic info on mine, but it's pretty standard in Japan. It can be a real time (and frustration) saver. It's great to drive around traffic jams instead of getting stuck in 'em.
As on another post, US does have TMC like navigation traffic info, like does Europe. MB has supported this for years in Europe (not available from all European countries though).

So you must know the answer to my question about the necessary version coding at installation then? Or do you want to keep that a secret to avoid people installing the device on their own?

I got it from Cars.com recent review of the ML320 Bluetec.

I've seen an option on Canadian W204's in the 2nd half of the 2009 production range that looks like this, but it is $375 on top of the COMAND (what Americans call MM) and gives you USB, aux-in and iPod control using COMAND. Is it the same thing, only retrofitted to the smaller screen?

looks really promising. I'm definitely interested especially if you can play DVDs.

I avoided the Nav option not because of cost but also the chance of the pop up Nav breaking down.

I actually like my non MM LCD display, it's better than not having a display at all. I really hate the ancient looking one-line orange digital stereo display on the BMW 3-series.

Play DVDs? I don't think so... I don't think the screen supports it.. If anyone has got this done, please post pics

Does this mean that those of us with COMMAND (MM Multimedia Package) can soon pay only about $375 (assuming Canadian $) to get the UMI installed? Sounds logical since $1800 is for the UMI for cars without a COMMAND/MM Package, but for those of us with the COMMAND/MM Package the $300 range would provide just the addition of USB and iPod controls via the COMMAND.

I wonder when this option or interface will be available for sale - I just bought the old iPod interface (the one that displays on the instrument cluster), maybe I should have waited...

Everyone, I checked out the Mercedes-Benz Canada site and it appears there is a separate C$375 option for the Media Interface. I also downloaded their eBrochure which describes the interface as well. I checked out other MB sites and it seems only Canada offers this.

I'm going to call a Mercedes dealer in Canada in the morning to see if I can buy the interface. But I'm not sure why only Canada seems to have this as an option and not other countries. For example, the US site still only has the iPod interface on their site and brochure as opposed to the Media interface with USB and iPod controls on the Command.

In any case, if I can buy the Media Interface from Mercedes Canada, I can FINALLY control my iPod on my Command screen!!!

Media Interface is a 190 Euro factory option in Germany (under 518 option code). This does not give everything the UMI kit would do, like no BT audio streaming from a phone. But the iPod, USB-Stick and similar connection options would come with MI.

Thanks, that's good to know. Don't need the BT audio streaming. Would be happy with just the USB and iPod on the COMMAND.

Anyone know how I can order this thing?

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
My dealership is sending me a brochure. Last week they told me it is $2500.00 installed. I heard it's not that difficult to install. I think the dealership is a bit high on the install.

That must be referring to UMI as the original title of the thread.

I happened to grab a brochure of the UMI kit too when I visited my dealer. I could scan and post it but none of you would understand more than the figures from it.

Installation isn't extremely complicated but is estimated to take a few hours anyway, was it actually four hours. One has to remove the head unit and install the speaker and the actual control unit plus version coding the cluster and some other stuff.

2500 is kind of high but my dealership said it would be 16** for the unit if they are @ 100hr that means 7 1/2 hours of install time leaves room for tax.... so in think it should be 2100 to 2150 not real sure just thinking out loud

Maybe I am wrong, but I swear I read that install time is 3.5 hours.

I think most of you are talking about the Universal Media Interface which costs over $1600 and takes some time for the install. This option is for those without a COMMAND (or the Multimedia Package in the US). But for those of us with a COMMAND, it appears that a $375 option is now available to provide just the USB, Aux, and iPod on COMMAND screen functionality.

I just contacted a Mercedes dealership in Canada and apparently they got information on the new Media Interface yesterday so they are trying to sort things out. I should have more information very soon...
