Rain Sensing wiper issue
Hello All,
My wipers have been acting funny lately. Seem to speed up for no reason and run at full speed in a drizzle. If I cycle the power on them, they return to normal for a while. Is there some way to clean the sensor?
Rick

Wipe wipewipewipe wipe..........
That's normal operation in position 2. If the windshield is clean at the top center, the sensor is clean.

Had the same problem with my S203 this year. The dealer made some software update and changed the rain sensor...since then it works fine.
You kinda have to take this kind of technology with a grain if salt. Its a sensor so it can pick up dirt that is hard to clean (bug) and the wipers go crazy tring to solve the issue. Iv hads mine go nutts when the window was foggy. Try spraying some washer fluid next time so see if it corrects the issue.

Same problem here... Everything is fine and then the wipers get possessed for a few moments. I agree with Rick, try spraying a little washer fluid and see if it helps. If you turn your wipers off and then back on I found that that works, too... Doesn't seem like you'd have to do that on a new car, but hey, whatever it takes!

Same here.
plus, hardly any difference between pos 1 & 2.
i'm gonna talk to my dealer about it,
though may people here have said it's "normal".
if that's true, then it's the ****tiest feature of the car.

Cold humid night, dew everywhere, just dripping off the car. Mirrors completely fogged over, windshield and rear window so thick with dew you can't see out of the car.
Start the car and the wipers go crazy. Turn on the rear window defrost to clear it and the side mirrors. Turn on the front defrost to get the windshield warm. Let climate control settings handle the cabin.
When I can see enough to back out, I start moving. That first mile changes everything. Even when the windshield is "clear," the wipers are still going crazy. I turn them off when I can see and the glass is clear. At the end of that first mile, the windows and mirrors are clear.
I turn the wipers back on and they flip once and are quiet. Maybe they flip a couple more times in the next 1/2 mile.
This is repeated maybe 8 times in the last month.
I'm thinking that the temperature differential between the inside and outside of the windshield has an effect on the wiper sensor. I always use the first (lower speed) auto setting on the wipers. Mostly they work just fine, and if they take off for some reason, it's usually as has been written here and they stop after a short while.

I've always only used the first setting. The wipers seemed amazingly fine for the first year and I've just been amazed at how well they have worked. Now it appears that something has them a little posessed. Like my car needs to be rebooted LOL.

Okay where exactly is the rain sensor? Is it that "bulb" on top of the dashboard in the center? Or does it have something to do with the Rearview mirror?
