Any more info on the transmission whine? I just leased a C300 sport and it has the tranny whine while decelerating from about 45-35. I brought it in for an alignment right after I picked it up and the loaner did the same thing but not as loud. It had 15,000 miles on it. Wondering if it gets better after it wears in a little. Everyone who gets in the car asks what that noise is. Now I started getting the "check break pad wear" indication. Car is only 2 weeks old. Hope this is not a sign of things to come.

I have a similar issue. It seems that one of my windows is not 100% rolled up either... The sound appears to be coming from my rear driver side window, or the driver window up top behind my head...

Ron, you said that the dealer fixed this issue for you, what did they do to remedy it?

On the topic of whining or engine noise... I don't have anything at high speeds. But when I take my foot off the gas around 30 or so mph, and coast, it sounds like an air turbine or like an aircraft engine slowing down after landing... I think its pretty cool and don't get bothered by it, but could this be an issue that I should address causing damage?

Mine is definitely tranny. I hear it with windows up and radio on. Shift to neutral, all goes quiet.

After reading this, I hope it's not a transmission issue. I pretty much only hear it at highway speeds. I've read in some other post that it may be the rubber seals around the doors. I have the new mirrors, so it shouldn't be that. Did any of you think it was the window at first or is mine likely something different?
Update, took it to the dealer and they adjusted the door....no more wind noise!

i get TONS of whining when letting of the throttle when I have my a/c on...

as soon as I hit the a/c button, the noise disappears....

is this something related to the compressor or what? doesn't do it when I just have the fan running...

it's so loud that my friend asked me if my car was turbocharged the other day.

In my case, we can hear the hissing noise when the engine is idle.
Thanks!

2006MY CLS 500
For Those With Whistling Noises

If you have a whistling noise coming from outside your driver or passenger area the likelihood is that it is your mirror glass. I have a CLS500, noticed the noise and had someone fiddle around the mirror area when driving at the speed in which the whistling occured. Then upon closer inspection we noticed that the drivers side mirror had a small rubber edging around it and the passenger side did not. It must be on there to stop the air resonating around the mirrors edge. I haven't looked into seeing if MB sell the rubber edging (I doubt they will, they'd probably rather charge for a whole mirror unit). anyway we managed to stop the whistling by sticking tape around the edge of the mirror (for the time being) so I know that whatever this rubber edging is, it is needed to stop the noise !

Annoying problem solved. Now just need to find out why my roof lining is loose under the parktronic led unit and why I have mettalic rattles coming from my front doors when the music is loud or I hit sharp bumps in the road.

Guys,
I own a 2000 C300, 35000 Miles with a similar noise, you can hear it louder when you hit 35 to 40 MPH, brought it to the dealer and they confirm it's the transmission.
They order a new transmission and is been replaced as we speak, thank god the car still under warranty.

I just had the infamous 40mph whining tranny replaced in my 2010 GLK 350 4-Matic. The new tranny is even worse. They ordered another. One more strike and they will buy it back, guaranteed.

Sounds like a belt idler pulley bearing. And it's a squeak, not a hiss.

Warranty.

whistle noise

I have had my c280 since 2006 and at 198,000 miles am now hearing the whistling noise at 40 mph that you all are describing. Its just when I am starting out and after I get to 50-60-70 mph its gone. Its like it warms up or something. My mechanic can't find any problems. I'm going to keep on driving it. Will check here for answers...how did the " clip on transmission rod" work out?
