6 Months Free Sirius Satellite

Hello all,

Does the 6 months free satellite radio start whenever you activate it or as of the date of purchase. Can i not activate it for a few months and still have 6 months free? Kind of silly question, yes.

Thanks!

From personal experience, if you do not activate it, you will receive several letters. Then one day you'll discover that your free 6 months is now 5 months. They will automatically 'activate' it for you, and you find out the next month. You call and complain and get nowhere. So, you activate your car's radio (not the service, but pairing the car to the service) and you get the remaining free months. Being bitter about it you don't renew, then one day all you get is a "demo" station. That's it, it's all over.

In short, activate it now before it goes away.

Thanks for the information.

If I activate the Sirius service and decide not to renew after six months, is it easy to stop the service or it will need to go through long phone calls to Sirius to stop the service?

With best regards,

xm / sirius is so easy to call in, no hassles. they ask for your radio id and will cancel subscription in a quickness.

I activated mine in July and they gave me until April '09 for some reason.

I'm going to wait and see what I am offered at that point.

I do like the service.

With Sirius stock currently at 13 cents...yes 13 cents per share its only a matter of time before free HD radio service (becoming the industry standard) puts them out of business. I noticed over the Christmas Holiday they were opening up the stations for free in intervals, certain channels for a few days and then another set for another few days. Guess they were hoping to rope in some new customers. So hurry up and activate your service and enjoy it while you can.

I did just that. Waited a few months and after activating it, I have stopped listening to broadcast radio entirely except for the occasional news broadcast.

I bought my car in Oct, and just activated last week. I only have 3 months remaining.

Is it just me, or is XM way better than Sirius. My mom has XM in her Acura, and I like the stations a lot more than the Sirius. Plus, there is always a delay when changing stations, is that normal?

The stations are pretty much the same between XM an Sirius now.

I did the European Delivery Program, that, and the return shipping time burned up a few months of calendar time. However, my 6 months Sirius subscription did not begin until I activated the system after the car was returned to the US.

At the six month point it will go silent. That's what I did and called later to sign up.

Sirius is seriously flawed. no reception passing under overpass instantly, no reception at any where that's covered, and no reception even driving pass a shade of a tree. will not sign up after the free trial expire. i'll stick to my ipod and normal radio and mp3 CDs.

I noticed in So cal the reception for Sirius is not good at all... it would go dead with clear sky above. On the east coast however I have had no issues.

i am pissed, after reading this thread. i called Sirus and found out that my free 6 months is EXPIRED. I did not even activate it and listen to it once!!!! over the 6 months I have my car, I did try to get on the Sirus radio, but always got a message saying I need to activate it. I was lazy so I thought I would just activate it one day when I get sick of listening to regular radio.
What I don't understand is why didn't Mercedes dealer tell us that the free trial starts the day you purchase the car?? And why don't they just activate it for us? The reason I thought my my sales asked me "do you want me to activate it or you want to activate it later on your own" is that I have the 6 months anytime, starting the date of the activation. That's just Fxxxxx stupid!!! I am not happy.

speaking of which...I just got a letter (right now) saying my Sirus will expire in few short weeks. It's only early janaury and I've only picked up the car on the last day of July. ONLY FOUR MONTHS!!! WTH!! what the hell happened to two other months? did the dog logo ate it? or did my car time traveled?

That pretty much sums up my experience as well.

Opinions really do vary on this subject. I've had my C350 for 6 months and today just paid for my first subscription renewal for Sirius Satellite radio. I rarely listen to anything else in the car. I love the variety of the music on the rock channels and find myself listening to CNBC daily.

Premium SIRIUS upgrade extra $2.99?

I've recently activated my Sirius radio in my new C300 and I noticed on the Sirius web site that I could pay $2.99 for Premium SIRIUS near CD-quality digital audio (128k) upgrade to my existing free 6 month trial period.

Has anyone upgraded to the near CD-quality digital audio and is it worth the money?

Yes, opinions are very wide ranging. Bought two MBs and dealer activated both immediately before we drove off the lot. No ipod or mp3 for us, but we love Sirius. We are just now at the expiration of the trial and if you do the math and plan to keep the car more than about 2 years, the Lifetime membership is clearly the best deal. And, they divide it up into 5 payments with no fee or interest.

That is for internet radio, not for your car.
