How do you disable the hill-start assist?

I'd like to disable the hillstart assist (when the car automatically holds the brakes while you shift between D and R, or vice versa, when you are starting off on an incline).

How do I access the programming to disable this function?

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to disable this function because I dislike my car helping me in this aspect. I'm capable of swiftly moving my foot off the brake and onto the gas without my computer helping me. When the brakes remain engaged, I find the transition into motion is unnatural.

I agree that the transition can sometimes feel a bit "unnatural", but I have become pretty much accustomed to it. It takes a little while to get used to the new feel but is actually quite nice once you get the hang of it.

I'm guessing that this can't be disabled without a dealer ECU reprogramming....if it can even be done then.

I know how you feel, I find it intrudes on my driving too. Its a great feature for many or even me somedays (hung over)lol. But when your in the mood to drive, it would be nice to disarm it. I think you should e-mail MB and let them know you would like to be able to disarm it as easy as the ESP buttom.

I reckon it would be disarmed if you disable ESP?

dyno mode:
1)Put key in, and turn to the first position
2) press on the steering wheel "Accept Call" and then 1 second later, press "OK" and Hold together
3) Menu pops up in the intrument cluster

one of those options should be diagnostic test or something like that, i dont remember the name. anyways, click it, then in a submenu, you can set it so that the next time you start the car, EBD, ESP, ABS, will be off.

someone should try this and see if hillstart assist stays on

I think these guys would be better off with a Tata Nano. Power nothing.

With 20" wheels, of course.

So what you are talking about is a real car...not one that has to pamper you at every move....wouldn't want that now would we...maybe a few less electro nannies would be nice on days when you are simply wanting to drive for the fun of it and not just to get somewhere comfortably.
If I had another space in the garage I would likely be building a Factory Five AC Cobra just about like you described...

I have the 6MT. That split-second of braking feels like a little angel giving me a boost up each hill. That feature caught me off-guard the first time I experienced it. I like it now.

416to212, are you on hills all of time? It doesn't seem like feature activates unless the hill or incline is quite noticeable.

I have read somewhere...maybe even in the manual...that the hill assist only operates on grades of 5% or greater.

I couldn't take it so I had to run out and grab the manual. Page 246-The hill assist activates on inclines of 5 degrees or greater.
