Dual Racetrack ?" x 12"

The card that came with my MM system describes the subwoofer as a high-efficiency dual racetrack configuration using concentric dual coils powering a single elliptical subwoofer cone of 12" x 5 or 6 or 7" (I can't recall just now).

The sound system is designed to minimize distortion and provide a very high fidelity/accurate sound; it is not loud enough for extreme bass/boom response. Note that the signal distribution is entirely digital and the digital to analog conversion is done at the speaker. Just swapping subwoofers may not get the result you are looking for.

Here is a link to an evaluation that was done by an mobile audio magazine. It has some good descriptive system on the Logic7 MM system.

Yes it is in the trunk suspended under the rear shelf on a special carrier structure that isolates the speaker+driver from the car structure. The precludes direct mechanical resonances that can be harmful and disturbing to rear seat passengers.

The scheme MB is is tuned for each type of vehicle to avoid self-cancelling resonant reflections while optimally integrating the sound field with the other 11 speakers. It has very accurate sound imaging, sometimes described as "tight" or "crisp", but cannot produce the deliberately emphasized boom and deep bass response desirable for some type of contemporary music.

Need to throw a 12" into the trunk for sure...
that will be my first mission for the new car.

This "article" reads like an advertisement written by Harman Kardon. Besides which it starts with an inaccuracy - DVD-A 5.1 surround sound has been available in other "entry luxury" vehicles for several years - for example in various Acura vehicles since 2004.
