What is the size of oil filter cup wrench for the oil filter housing?
I am almost ready to change engine oil. I have a genuine oil filter, 9 quarts of Mobil 1 0W40, and ordered the Mityvac 7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus (Thanks to javavu). I popped off the front half of the plastic engine cover and looked at the oil filter housing of my 2008 C300 4 Matic. I did not know how to loose it, so I have searched about a tool to loose and tighten the oil filter housing. I found a cup wrench is used for loosing and tightening, but it did not mention about the size of a cup wrench. What size of cup wrench do I have to use? And where do I buy it?
Thank you.
Thank you.

Flutes
Takes about 50 strokes on the vacuum pump and 15 minutes to get it all out, by measurement.

Two in one day
MY oil filter cap wrench is a 3/8 drive Hazet 2169, 14 flutes and pretty close to 76mm. I've used it on every MB I've ever owned (back to 1985) with a spin-on filter plus my Porsche 944. My friend JB is bringing his CLK430 over tomorrow for another oil change using my $40 Topsider. I'll be changing the C300 next week the same way.

So when I removed the front part of the engine cover, I was briefly confused at the peculiar appearance of the oil filter cap until I realized that the dealer's tech left his filter cap wrench on it after the last oil change. It even has an MB tool part number on it. It's been on there since last August when they did the A (or was it B?) service.
Start to finish, the oil change took 23 minutes which includes sucking it out with my Topsider and changing the filter mit O-rings.
I think I'll return it next week, just to embarrass him in public. Should be fun.

C240 Oil info required
Hello,
I own a 2004 C240 (W203) 4Matic (2.6L Engine) which I recently purchased. It currently has about 150K miles and I will be changing oil myself in about a couple of weeks. I understand that I need a special tool to remove the oil filter. For this purpose I plan on ordering the following:
Can some please let me know whether this tool will work?
Also, I called the local MB dealer (Ann Arbor, MI) and asked him for the recommended oil to be used and they told me 5W-40 Fully Synthetic. However, I read in the forum that the recommended oil is a Mobil-1 0W-40. Can some one clarify which oil is the really recommended one?
In order to do the oil change, I understand that I have to remove the rear-most panel under the car because that is where the oil pan drain plug can be accessed from. Is this correct?
A lot of members in this forum recommend using a "top-side" oil suction device. For this purpose, I have two options:
1) A manual Mityvac: or,
2) A pump that operates with an air compressor:
Any pros/cons with either one of these two pumps?
Sorry for the long post but I tried to put all of my questions in one post instead of following up each answer that I get with a new question.
Thanks in advance for your help!

As to the two oils you mention, either one is OK. The 0W40 is more readily available than the 5W40 and can be found on sale periodically.
The filter cap wrench is a standard item. Why not go to a place that sells them and do a fit check before you buy one?

And if your oil filter housing cap is the same size as on W204, then yes, the Assenmacher wrench you linked to (74mm / 14 flutes) should work. I personally use the 74.5mm version and never had a problem with it slipping, but supposedly the 74mm one provides an even better fit.

I know this thread is kinda old but just letting everyone know that the autozone 'B' wrench is NOT the right size, it is too big and slipped when I tried to use it to remove my filter housing on my 2011 C300. It does have the right number of sides on it but look elsewhere for a wrench. I'm getting the Assenmacher one for my next oil change. Luckily I had a strap wrench that I was able to use this time but the correct sized tool would have saved me a lot of time.

My first time heearing about this "Fluid Evacuator" device for an oil change.
Why do you use one? How do you use one?
Easier/cleaner than just getting under the car and letting the oil drain?

Oil filter housing wrench
I can confirm. Oil filter B cap from autozone does NOT work. Marked part number 25401 76 MM. 14 flutes.

I called on the powers of greyskull and just went He-man, I felt a little budge and a tear dropped from my eye.
Also the Mann filter I ordered didn't fit, and I barely made it to Napa auto parts before closing, I brought the oil housing with me since I was determined to finish the job. The Napa gold filter brand fit.
Buttoned up the bottom and put in 8.5 quarts of oil as per the manual and finished the job.
