Afternoon all,
So, more competition for the C300. It is certainly arguable that the 335i is more of a performance luxury car; the price difference would certainly suggest it. In the end though, a C-Class is congruous with a 3-Series. Which way you go seems to depend on what sort of person you are. Sound off on your opinion.

The new 335 turbo motor has problems - the BMW club magazine is full of stories. Noisy wastegates on the turbos, an ECU remap that went awry and choked off low RPM power and led to lag, and that motor reportedly runs too hot.

Well, from what I see on BMW boards very few of them actually have "running hot" issue. Also, the ones with sport package (which are most of the 335s) have an extra oil cooler that resolves the problem. Noisy wastegates and turbo lag are being fixed with the newer software releases, which every car gets upgraded to now when in for service. However, in performance C-class and 335i are totally in different leagues, especially if you chip bimmer (yes, I do drive both and can compare). On a side note - I never had any issues with my 335i for those two years I drive it.Originally Posted by nyca

To OP: I think the article should rather compare C350 (not C300) to 335i. C300 is more comparable with 328i

I had a 335i, I hate to say it but it was a a total lemon. First it was running hot so I had to add an additional oil cooler onto the car. Later models came with oil coolers already. Then the High pressure fuel pump gave on me, twice! And the last major problem was I had to replace the camshafts due to it being out of spec. Had to open up the engine after just 6 months of ownership! And sadly, these are just the major problems. Had a string of minor problems too that add up to a lot! Eventually gave up on the car and bought a C class instead. So far, I've been very happy with the reliability. Of course the performance between the BMW and the Benz are very different but at least I don't get stuck on the side of the road anymore!

Good point!! this is also the reason I changed my mind and got the C300 instead of 335.Originally Posted by albert101

My friend's 535 also got a lot of problem with its turbo engine.

It's true these cars aren't even really comparable. Also, the article was showing a picture of the 335 coupe, which although basically the same as the sedan performance-wise, is WAY more attractive than the latter imho. C350 or 300 for that matter kills the 335 sedan in looks.Originally Posted by _MBMW_

This article is so stupid, the 335i competes with the C350, and the 328i with the C300.Originally Posted by IB Adrian
