iPhone cradle/ iPhone not compatible w/ipod integration
Hi Guys
Anyone install the new MB iPhone integration cradle yet in their w204? Costs? Dealership required? Can you manage via MM vs steering wheel? Any issues??
I tried to hook up my iPhone to my ipod integration and it was not compatible with charging and plus who wants their phone in the glove department.
Personally I feel this is a huge mishap on MB with the new iPhone. Apparently, their is a iPhone cradle which came out last year.
My partner just installed his new iPhone cradle in his BMW x3 and he even gets better phone reception using less battery life.
see link:

Thanks!!!

The iphone works with the ipod interface imo. It will charge it..you just need to buy a small adapter at any electronics store. Also, if you get a call the music will stop playing and the phone will ring through the audio system. If you get a text message it beeps.

MB supposedly addressed the inability to charge iPhone issue. I heard they released a replacement for the white ended cable. The new one is thicker and has a black connector that is supposed to be iPhone compatible.

The part number you want is this: B6 782 45 31 - Data cable
I've ordered one for my older ipod kit. The adapters made by Scoshe suck, lots of background interference. You don't need the iphone cradle, you can use the Bluetooth connection for the phone piece. OK, so it's in the glovebox, get another ipod just for the car then.

Did the dealer order it for you or did you?
If the dealer ordered it, did they install it for you, and was that free?

De nada, amigo...I had to tell the dealer about it once they finally understood my question at MBUSA. Cost was an hour and some change to install $160 and the cable was $50. I realize it's a bit of a rip off, but the background noise was irritating. The newer data cable is thicker and must be shielded better since the background noise is gone. I'm really happy with the new cable. Yes, so no need to get a whole new ipod kit. BTW, I had the disk changer and they need to remove (so I was told) some glovebox pieces. It may be a DIY job, but I didn't want to mess with it.

On order for free installation
Took my C300 Sport to the local MB dealership today, showed them a copy of this email and they ordered the replacement IPod Harness for installation this Friday morning.
Free under warranty.

Can you tell me what adapter you bought. Do you have nav? The car links to the iphone, but will not imput the contacts.

What email did you provide your dealership for them to replace this cable under warranty?

Black Ipod Integration Kit Cable
I went to the dealership yesterday regarding my 4G Ipod not charging. Since I got the C300 Feb '09 I had to charge my Ipod via pc USB numerous times.
I read in a DTB or TSB posted here in MBworld that the replacement is not covered by warranty. However, I asked them why can't a 2009 Ipod integration kit charge a 2007 4G Ipod? Isn't the cable suppose to be backwards compatible?
Because of my insistence the service manager decided that their dealership will cover the cost of the cable and labor to install.
The replacement part # is B67824531 $38.61 + $10 shipping from MB of Ft. Lauderdale.

My SA did this upgrade for me today for free...I was so happy as I can now charge my 3GS from the glovebox without the Scosche adapter...

Not to sound cheap, but I feel like I am being rip off just a little bit and wanted to rant.
I added the $375 ipod integrated kit option when I purchased my car back in May 2009, which clearly was after they came out with the new updated cable. but now my dealer is telling me that I have to spend another $50 dollars on the new cable which should of come with the car in the first place. I would understand if my car was purchased a year ago when apple haven't updated their adapters. but this is just not right when it clearly states on mbusa website that my $375 ipod kit will charge with any dock-connector-equipped iPod device, and I just bought my car two months ago. What's even worst is that my dealer won't replace the cable for me for free because apparently I got such a good deal on my car. What does that got to do with me getting what it was advertised for in the first place.

I know what you mean, it's not being cheap but rather you feel cheated. I got my C300 Feb 09 and it had the white cable. I was lucky that my dealership was easy to talk to and kind enough to replace even if MBUSA says its not warranty.
I was at the dealership 2 days ago and checked out their floor model C300. Guess what, it already has the black ipod connector. So I suggest go back to the dealership and check out the 09 C300's and if it has the new black cable then argue that you should have the same as well since yours is a MY09 as well. See if they can argue their way out of that.
Good luck!

After 2 phone calls to MBUSA customer support with no luck, I tried e-mailing the customer support on their website. 2 days later. I got a reply stating that they will contact my dealer and have this issue taking care of. I finally got my line installed 2 days ago without getting charge a penny. If any of you just bought a new car and wants to get the new wires. I guess e-mailing MBUSA is the best way to get it done.

Ipod killer
My S550 with the ipod kit is killing my Ipods, this is the third Ipod that has died on me in the past year . Initially I didn't know what the problem was but the only thing that they all have in common is being played in my car and after that I have been unable to charge Has anybody else had this problem, this problem didn't occur immediately but after listening to the 3rd replacement ipod one day i forgot and left it in the car connected in my garage, when i took it out i couldn't turn it on or off and i am unable to charge it in the car , with my laptop or my wall charger. I also have the white cable.

I too wasn't able to get my 4g ipod and of course 3g iphone to work. But, the car is only five months old. What is the best path to having this covered under warranty, it is pretty silly that it doesn't work and isn't backward compatible.

So, is this part (B6 782 45 31 - Data cable) a replacement for the ipod integration kit which i do NOT have, or a replacement for the MMI interface, which I DO have? the MMI will not charge my iPhone, and the dealer is willing to replace that cable if i can tell them what to replace it with!
Is there a TSB allowing for a customer pay new MMI cable? I pulled one off of a 2010 GL and it had the same part number as the one in the 2009 R i picked up last week...neither work.

So this "new" black cable, is the only difference that it now charges your iphone or does it also add controls on your MM screen? I'm just debating whether to have the dealer swap out the cables or whether I should pay for the expense of adding the cradle in the center console (still don't know the cost and what's involved in doing that). Thanks guys.
