The way our shift knobs lock onto the shift lever makes me think we could take an inch or so off the lever and still lock the knob on properly. This would shorten the throws but may make the knob a little too low for comfort and may take a good bit more leverage to shift. Has anyone put much thought into this? It would be a shorter shift but would it feel right?

I guess you don't drive in snow or lot's of traffic. Manual cars are *****. Yes I agree that the fun factor is a lot higher in manual car, but believe, after driving manual for 10 years, I switch to auto and love it much more. If I had an integra then I would rather have a manual car but c'mon this is a benz. You should be chilling while driving. I got auto.

So maybe he's not quite a purist but I wouldn't say he can't drive...for me, I prefer drivin to chillin...

6MT on the c300 all the way!
Picked up my c300 6MT 2 weeks ago and I LOVE it. I went from a 05 Accord Coupe 6MT and although the MB gearbox is nowhere as crisp or short as the one in the Honda it's honestly much better then I would have thought. I've been driving stick Honda's for 16 years.
Compared to the C300 auto it's a lot more fun in the twisties and has better throttle response but I must admit if the C350 was in my price range, I would have easily dealt with the auto.

This is an old thread, but anyways, I have a manual 2008 C300. Test drove it first, then test drove an automatic. Driving the automatic just wasn't the same. The torque could really be felt in the manual which is why I bought it.

2010 C300 6 Speed M/T
Wow, if in Nov 2009 this thread was already old it's way older now... But just to register my first post as a m/t C300 driver I'll revive it.
My 2008 Civic Si 4 door (Si's are all m/t) was recently totalled and was ready to upgrade to some German ride. I test drove the A4 2.0t m/t but was not very impressed. Tried to drive a BMW 328i or 128/135i with a m/t but dealer basically blew me off saying I'd have to order one if I wanted m/t. WTF why would I order one without taking it for a test drive. Plus I am 6'6", I definitely need to see if I can operate the clutch properly (I could not in a Infiniti G37, my knee hit the steering wheel, no adjustment of seat or wheel helped...). Anyway after leaving the Audi dealer I popped into MB and much to my surprise the black C300 I slipped into on the showroom floor was a m/t. And more to my amazement the salesmen took it out so I could drive it on a busy saturday afternoon with no appointment. To be honest it's no where near as sporty as the Si, it feels very heavy, but it's definitely more luxurious even though it's not as nice inside as the more expensive MB's. Damn mine even has pleather... But I am happy with my decision, I don't even regret not test driving a BMW (I have driven several BMW's with slush boxes and was never impressed by those). My only real gripe with my C300 is that the seats are not very supportive. I wish they could be easliy switched for some with better side bolsters, but alas it's a lease so ain't gonna happen. Oh wait, also don't like the base sound system. Read on other threads that swapping the speakers for better aftermarkets is a quick and cheap solution. That I might try.
But I got off topic. I can't see myself ever not driving a m/t. The last and only a/t I had was because of my wife's insistance, a 2006 Acura TL, great car but with 4 months left on the lease preferred to "downgrade" to Si since Honda took over the remaining payments...

haha do people read? this thread is for manual owner to share, if you drive a auto gtfo with all these words. this thread is to see how many c300 manual owner in this forum. and plus i heard manual is faster ;] even tho i got a c350 auto i feel like theres more action on a manual then just sitting there driving. its a c class so its no big deal and just sit there to relax. i mean if you was driving a S class then yeah because its huge and its made to feel comfy.
I drive a auto c300. I save the fun for my Mustang GT with a manual...

Dont know how true this is but I did read it somewhere?
They say:
Every 30,000 c-class models they make for U.S only 2 of them are manual!

Whomever "they" are, they are incorrect. With approximate annual US sales of 50-60k units (per MBUSA P.R.), that would be only two manual trans cars for the whole country per year. The manual trans rate is approximately 2-3% of total C Class, so that would be 2 or 3 units per 100 sold in the U.S. Of course, that rate is suppressed, because the manual is only available on the C300 rwd, so the percentage of manual just on C300 would be higher, providing a more realistic assessment of free market demand.
