W204 in China
Hello guys, greetings from Shanghai!
Just bought a new "built-in China" C230 in Shanghai and I guess you don't see this model too much back in the North America.
Here you go~~

Welcome to the Forum.
Seems to be a bit of mix and match from the US spec models but a nice looking car no matter. And why does everyone get the covered bin except of us in the States...that sucks.

Your car is GORGEOUS.
You're right, we don't have that engine in the U.S. now, but the W203 had that engine. Also, most of the world has that engine including our neighbors in Canada. We're "odd" here.
Your car really looks great. Congratulations. I think the interior really looks sharp too. Enjoy that car!

But it's so damned more expensive than in the states or Canada. This C230 costs me RMB 425,000.00 or roughly USD 62K during that China's hefty import duty!
I guess I can buy a C63 for this amount of money in the US, right?

it is "build-in-china', where is rationale of the import duty? or it is assembled in china and just tax you regardless.

For my car all parts are still nearly 100% imported and assembled in Beijing, but later this year they will increase the China-made percentage to about 40% to comply to local regulation.

I never really understood how the system work in China..
So is it possible to get cars built in other countries? You must be able to, right?
I am originally from HK but just not too sure when it comes to the mother land.. lol

Of course you can get a imported car here but the import duty will be even higher (more or less like those in HK).
Lots of luxury brands (like BMW, Audi, Volvo and of course MB) import the parts and assemble their car here because auto parts have lower duty rate than the finished product.

the emblem on the right side of the turnk said Beijing Benz-Buick..
dont' believe the emblem meant the car was bought in Beijing rather it meant the car is assembled by Beijing Benz-DaimlerChrysler..
I could be wrong..not that good at reading simplified chinese..

Actually the trunk emblem on the right says: "Beijing - Mercedes Benz Daimler Chrysler" because it's assembled by a joint venture factory of Beijing Auto & MB. Strange that they still used the name Daimler Chrysler though.

daydate, what does the last 2 words on the right side emblem say?? I thought the word meant Buick???
BTW, I assume your c230 is the advantage model, do you guys got to choose extra options like panorama roof or different wheels? or is everything standardized?

The last 2 words are "戴克" which is the short form of Daimler Chrysler.
The only model for C230 is avantgarde in China and basically there is no option to choose from (of course I'd take the panorama roof if it's available... too bad).

OH NO..."Daimler Chrysler"...shouldn't that be Daimler Benz now?

Great looking car! The AMG version is more aggressive, but I like the more subtle approach of the Avantgarde a lot (have one myself)... helps a lot to have twin exhausts as well (very nice).
As far as I can tell this is identical to the Avantgarde that is also sold in Western Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Belgium) - including the tinted rear lights.
