C Class Big Butt

I think the C class has a great look, but the bumper butt is very large and protruding. Is this a safety addition having an oversized bumper?

I thought that initially but it's growing on me. Only at a few angles does it look big.

I think it looks fine from all angles...

And your stock C is amazing! I don't know why but it looks really good!

I think you have picked on the single most objectionable design feature of the 204 - especially in AMG trim where that damn bumper protrusion is positively disharmonious & ugly.

One of the reasons we bought an Elegance - that bulbous tail is more subdued. The tail looks best on the base model C180. I was looking at an AMG side & rear three quarter on, on Friday - That large protuding rump sucks. Looks like someone stuffed the car in a swimming ring! As my Service Manager always says - The 204 tail belongs on a Chris Bangle BMW.

Look at this thing!!

I disagree, once the car is lowered than stock with springs or coilovers, you really cnat go wrong with the rear. Specially after adding a bigger more pronounced diffuser.

Hmm I've never noticed that before. I like my C's butt.

The only thing I've noticed is that the front end looks a bit soft/gentle for a sports sedan. The end of this Audi A4 commercial made me realize it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ6R7c3cnEE

Granted, the luxury model is shown.

That's because they took an aged look color "goldish silver," which a lot of the older mercedes have, and took a luxury edition, which also has the more traditional mercedes look.

I know, but I think C63 headlights could do any w204 some good.

I like your user name for some reason, BTW. Haben Sie kommen aus Deutschland?

Yup, born and lived there when I was young. I'm American though and we moved to the US where I now live.

Yes - some big butts are attractive LOL - but not this one even by American styling standards I'll take the SL63 tail thanks. Aggressive & pretty without being feminine like old SLs

I think the back side looks big because it is lifted.. if you see some of this forums members here who have them lowered the back looks appears ( at least to me) smaller..

If you look side on it still protrudes a mile & if you lower the tail without dropping the nose by the same amount you screw up the aerodynamics of the vehicle by allowing air under the car to form a pressure wedge. These cars are designed nose down, tail up for the aerodynamics to work. If you dump the tail you mess the handling up. If you do this for cosmetic reasons & don't care about stability at speed then so be it. Many on the forum dump the tail too far - ruin the cd in the process & adversely affect handling.

Mark my words - The midterm facelift will have a redesigned tail. Benz have had too much criticism in this regard.

I hate it on photos, but in real life it is acceptable. Would like to see how a change here effect the other angles.

There is nothing wrong with the rear bumper, lower it and get a C63 diffuser and you will get a total different look.

There's nothing wrong with the rear bumper. I do prefer the rear bumper on the sport package (w/ black lower valence) though

The international motoring journalists have given it a universal thumbs down. I'm sure they will crucify the new E - Thats really bad.

Originally when I saw the photos it bothered me, but once you see it in person and look at it a few times it definitely looks good. I would definitely say it has grown on me and makes the car look unique. Plus, the stance that it has with that rear bumper somehow reminds me of the CLS (but that may just be me).

Motoring Journalists

I found them qwoting from manufacturers releases for a start, other just copy info and print it with minor changes. Most important factor, they hardley own these cars, so who cares what they say.
