I think you have picked on the single most objectionable design feature of the 204 - especially in AMG trim where that damn bumper protrusion is positively disharmonious & ugly.
One of the reasons we bought an Elegance - that bulbous tail is more subdued. The tail looks best on the base model C180. I was looking at an AMG side & rear three quarter on, on Friday - That large protuding rump sucks. Looks like someone stuffed the car in a swimming ring! As my Service Manager always says - The 204 tail belongs on a Chris Bangle BMW.
Look at this thing!!

Hmm I've never noticed that before. I like my C's butt.
The only thing I've noticed is that the front end looks a bit soft/gentle for a sports sedan. The end of this Audi A4 commercial made me realize it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ6R7c3cnEE
Granted, the luxury model is shown.

I think the back side looks big because it is lifted.. if you see some of this forums members here who have them lowered the back looks appears ( at least to me) smaller..

If you look side on it still protrudes a mile & if you lower the tail without dropping the nose by the same amount you screw up the aerodynamics of the vehicle by allowing air under the car to form a pressure wedge. These cars are designed nose down, tail up for the aerodynamics to work. If you dump the tail you mess the handling up. If you do this for cosmetic reasons & don't care about stability at speed then so be it. Many on the forum dump the tail too far - ruin the cd in the process & adversely affect handling.
Mark my words - The midterm facelift will have a redesigned tail. Benz have had too much criticism in this regard.

I hate it on photos, but in real life it is acceptable. Would like to see how a change here effect the other angles.

The international motoring journalists have given it a universal thumbs down. I'm sure they will crucify the new E - Thats really bad.

Originally when I saw the photos it bothered me, but once you see it in person and look at it a few times it definitely looks good. I would definitely say it has grown on me and makes the car look unique. Plus, the stance that it has with that rear bumper somehow reminds me of the CLS (but that may just be me).

I found them qwoting from manufacturers releases for a start, other just copy info and print it with minor changes. Most important factor, they hardley own these cars, so who cares what they say.
