Yes, I am going to replace the door speakers as well, will do a DIY when it happens.
Yes it is possible to upgrade the HU software, but I do not know if that resets all the settings, the SDS is cache storing all user settings wich are later transfered into the HU again after completed update, this is an automated process and dont know if it is possible to skip this part.

For my GLK350, I have the standard audio 20. Can I confirm that the HK L7 tweeters and front/rear door speakers would just be simple bolt-on upgrade for the GLK350 like your C-class ?
Have you installed all the HK L7 speakers yet ? How's the sound improvement ?
Appreciate your advise.
Thanks,

GreenArcher85,

Take a look at the pictures Michael posted when he had his door panels removed..
I believe the tweeter replacement is easy but door speaker would require you to actually take off the door panel..

Yes, all speakers are bolt on, but as mentioned above the door speakers rquire a bit more work, the speakers are also riveted in place so new blind rivets are required.

Do you know how many hours for each door to replace all 4 speakers so I can verify that the dealer is not over charging?
Do I also need to order the blind rivets? Part # ? How many for each door?
Thanks.

Thanks guys for advise.
VV, Hope you don't mind me asking - out of curiosity ?
For the Total price of the HK L7 tweeters and door speakers, you could already buy an aftermarket speaker like Focal or Hertz. Following what you did, can I simply install the Hertz Speakers (4 ohms as well) ? My objective is just to have a fuller/clearer sound compared to the stock audio 20 speakers.
I do know it will sound better with a amp.
Thanks again.

Three rivets per speaker is required and they have part no. A0009910037
I would guess all four door speakers would take 2 hours tops.
@GreenArcher, as I work at Daimler I can buy the speakers at purchase price, and I doubt that any aftermarket speaker will fit withot serious modifications.
It would be possible to add an aftermarket amp but its not easy as you need to use high to low level converters wich rarely affects sound quality in a positive way..

@ vv, Just called up the MB dealership here in Valencia, CA. The tweeters are $47 each. I may try this mod first.
Question: With the hk tweeters, did the vocals improve compared to the stock tweeters ?

Strange that they are so much more expensive than over here, yes, I felt a signifficant difference with the new tweeters, I got a fuller sound wich wasnt as "sharp" as the old ones was.
When replacing them youll both see and feel the difference of the tweeters, the old ones look really cheap.

I also inquired about the price for the door speakers based on vv's part numbers.
HK Front door speakers - A204 820 2102 --> $190 each piece
HK Rear door speakers - A204 820 3002 --> $240 each piece
A little pricey.

Yes they are, over here they cost less than half that.
But as the tweeters are performing almost all of the high range audio in the car I think these are the best to replace first.

Thanks Vic!
I got my tweeters in the mail today from Joe of allmercedes.com for $40 a piece. I was immediately amazed with the sound improvement!
I'm still waiting for Joe's quote for the front and rear H/K speakers.

Just did swapped out my tweeters per this thread. Whole thing took about 5 min. Wanted to say thanks to Vic for bringing this to my attention. Eventually want to do the door speakers as well, but I think that's prob beyond what I'm comfortable doing.
