Speeding.

I got caught speeding at 180km/h

in a 100 zone. Got nailed with a brutal ticket. Since I have the option of going to court, I think I will go to court and see if the officer shows up. If not I get off scott free. Anyone else get any tickets in their ride yet? Sure many have...

its up to the judge if the cop doesnt show. i went, cop didnt show and i still had to pay the ticket. you do get a shot at explaining what happened but in my case it didnt work.

best of luck.

180? where do you live? (country wise)

speed is boring to me , I like quick accels to the speed limit :P

Fun, loud, and so long as you don't squeal the tires, no cops can touch you. And it doesn't increase your chance of being dead.

actually, if they think you are "worthy", police can hassle you any time they have a slight cause. They may not win in court, but they at least get a shot at it.

It's easy for them to tag you with a reckless for hard acceleration, then either not show up or bank on the judge siding with them since they wear the badge and are therefore "more honest" than the average citizen.

And good luck with that no increase in chance of death thing, it's always good to keep those odds down.

Front plates makes the car so ugly. I'm so glad they got rid of them in my area.

going 180km and you're not on the autobahn=dead if you crash

getting to 60km faster= not really much, since you aren't even going to go over 60...

My first ticket was 85mph in a 55mph zone aka "criminal speeding". The problem with that is everyone was doing 70mph on average, with some doing 75mph and I had two trucks on either side encroaching on my lane (second from the right) with my exit coming up, so I gunned it with my dad's ML320 CDI and next thing I knew it, the ******* was on my ***. I'm sure he saw the whole thing too.

Had a court date which got postponed twice, and got a lawyer who made sure I got no points but I had a $361 fine.

The other ticket was some ******* cop in Peabody, Massachusetts who had nothing better to do and decided that I ran a red making a left turn, even though it was a green/black and he drove right past me. Got that dropped after a court date. Its just a money-making machine for them.

I think everyone here would agree that you have more control of an automobile at less than full throttle than you do at full throttle, regardless of speed. That's pretty much just plain old physics and handling characterisics of automobiles (probably applies to all modes of transportation, who wants to start a thread?)

With that in agreement, do you still think your chances of death are no worse at full throttle, regardless of speed?

Your chances of losing control are definitely greater at full throttle due to that reduction in control. And due to those increased odds, there are increased odds of an accident. And you don't have to be going much over 15mph for an accident to be fatal. It would have to be a freak thing to get killed going only 15mph or 20mph, but it's quite possible. And if full throttle makes the odds of that freak occurrence go from 1 in a million to 2 in a million, it's still a freak occurrence, but you've doubled your odds.

Also, I think you are only considering if your vehicle hits something hard, and are disregarding the increased chances of getting hit by someone else...

you know, that innocent driver on their way home after a 16 hour day trying to feed their family during these tough economic times, and if they weren't so tired they may not have driven into you or your path, and if you weren't pegged to the floor you might have had enough control to avoid, but no, and then there's a big crash, and people get to see what increased chances of death really look like

(please excuse the rambling run-on sentences, it's for effect! )

now, with that all said, it's time to fess up. By far, my favorite part of owning my S55 is the part where the accelerator touches the floor.

I'm no angel - but if you hit another vehicle or a pedestrian at WOT the chances of a fatality are raised many times.

wow... anything 50 kmh + your car now gets impounded and your licence is suspended for a year....

so... basically i don't go 50 kmh over :\ ...

the way i see it... that speed limit was set by some ppl tryin to be extra safe... if there is no one on the roads i think it's safe to go over the limit once you're responsible.

I am surprised a C230 can even get up to 180km/h. Must have taken one hell of a long time.

You'd be surprised at those little ****ers potential. Yes they are slow getting there but ive gotten my C230 to about 120-125 MPH before no trouble.
