Can anybody out there advise me on the procedure for taking off the black trim that sits in front of the foglights?

What are you trying to do? You need access to the back of the bumper.

I thought if it is a simple enough procedure I would put that laminx type vinyl on the fogs, but if it entails removing sills and trays then I might not.

It's really easy. Remove 3 torx 15 screws around the trim

I believe he has the oval type H11 fog lights without the AMG pack. It is quite difficult to remove the grille in that model.

Thanks evrybody for your input. Mrjsw is correct, got the oval lights but would love to pick-up the AMG package. Cost is the big prohibitor at this point.

Yes the complete pack is expensive but maybe just the front bumper? Maybe even from a salvaged W204.

PM vic viper for info he's a tech he'll be able to help you out with the normal bumper.
