Select C300 Sport, go to options and you will see the 4matic option. I think they eliminated displaying them as individual models to clean up the site a bit but its definitely still there.

I don't think SLK350 has the CGI engine...it did have 300+ HP but I believe it's just an uprated non-CGI M272..

+1

Totally agree!

I mean don't get me wrong I love my 3.0L 230hp engine but we should at least have the option to get more powerful alternatives. I'd be happy with a C350 4matic even.

Too bad Mercedes doesn't produce a C550 (4matic)...i'd be the first in line for that!

That is the reason - They have to reverse engineer the car to make it run on crap American fuel. Porsche et al decided to do that. Merc have decided to do that on one model thus far if it has the CGI engine. Sure they can do it but have decided not to. Taking an engine that already meets Euro 2012 emission specs & back engineering it when you have a perfectly servicable range of older engines makes no sense for your volume sellers.

Carsy - You guys are fine in Aus - The refineries were being modded for the clean fuel when I left in 2003.

US fuel has to get into the 21st century - that means more expensive.

Are those "LED" tails all-LED? Or just like the 09 ones? Because if they are full-LED I want a retrofit

And RE the fuel: American fuel has a low octane rating which would result in a knocking engine. If you want more HP you will need to get the compression ratio up. Take the Porker 911 Turbo: runs +40bhp with 102 octane fuel. But then again I would KILL for cheap fuel we are paying 1,4 EUR per liter for 95/98

I dont think the octane values differs as much as it may apperar,
Of course the US market cant use the same rating as the rest of the world, that would be craazy
the US uses AKI rating whilst normal people who uses metric systems and other more easy to use ratings uses the RON rating.

95 RON octane is the equivalent of 90-91 AKI Octane

That is correct but they have inferior fuel in some parts. From what I have seen there are a lot of service stations in the smaller regions that don't carry "the best" fuels.

But those prices. I'd give up a nut for that price

The problem is not octane rating - It's mainly fuel with a sulphur content below 5ppm. America produces no "clean" fuels because it would mean upgrading all of it's refineries. This won't be done until fuel margin is improved & the clunkers out of Detroit don't need it. The US does not have the stringent European emissions requirements.

I'm happy they haven't changed much for 2010. IMO the w204 is still the best styled car in this class and that is what is attracting buyers. The feeling you get when you get behind the wheel is that this is a solid car that stands out. I would guess that since fuel prices are so high, MB decided against raising power output if it would result in poorer fuel economy.

Funnily, the CGI is more economic. But it will probably clog up or malfunction with American fuels.

shift paddles

Are the shift paddles on the 2010 C Sport new? I don't remember them but also I am not as familiar with the 300.

okay, so if it is the sulfure content that doesnt do well with direct injection, then how are other companies dealing with the issue? Lexus has had their IS350 with DI since 2007. the LS460 as well. I dont get it.

No you don't get it. It's not just the DI. It's the whole package required to meet Euro emissions. Aside from tuning issues Benz uses 3 way cat convertors. When you feed fuel with high sulphur though the system of a vehicle with three way cats the sulphur reacting with the catalysts produces benzines at the tailpipe. Benzines are really nasty carcinogens which defeats the entire object.

BTW - Porsche & VW/Audi are having huge crap with their DI vehicles on American gas. Heads off in under 20K miles that look like this DI Cayenne at 5K miles (see below). Mercs DI engines have an inlet detergent tank that keeps the inlets & valves clean that requires to be topped up at every service. I know because we make the detergent package for them.

sorry, im not exactly the mechanical type of guy, but i appreciate you trying to explain it.

then i guess the better question is what can mercedes do to fix this problem on their part instead of waiting for the US to get better grade gas?

Way back in the early 60s, it was shown that a thimble full of nuclear fuel would power a home for a year. We still don't have portable nuclear power plants, even though the technology to do that is 'easy'. How hard would it be to implement that same technology in a car? Probably not too hard.

Mercedes has pushed ahead of the market. They could, and have, tabled their new technology waiting for the market to catch up (cleaner fuels). Meanwhile, they still produce engines that work in the market place. They are doing what they should do, even if that new technology never reaches the marketplace. They are protecting their customers by holding off unnecessary development costs while at the same time sitting on the appropriate technology waiting for the usable fuels to become ready. Good Job.

The automobile industry is the reason we have "gas stations" - the consumer way of purchasing fuel from oil companies. This keeps the oil industry alive in consumers minds. We've had the electric car destroyed twice in the past 100 years. What does that tell you? It is not in the financial best interest of any corporation to produce an electric car. Considering that - all these great technological innovations that the auto industry is coming up with are really poor.

By looking at the picture and instruction, I would say it's the same as the 08 and 09 model.

"While their design is sure to draw added attention, LED taillamps offer more than a sleek styling statement. Markedly brighter than traditional incandescent bulbs, LED technology also delivers quicker illumination, increasing the likelihood that drivers approaching from behind will see your brake lights sooner and have more time to react in situations that require hard stopping."

C300 4Matic with 18in AMG's
okay ... I just priced out a 2010 with same equipment as my 2009. It is $2K more. One big difference is that the Harmon Kardon system now is an $800 option and not part of multimedia package (at least that is how I read it). C300 4Matic, Paladium Silver plus leather, P2, MM, Pano Roof. I like the new wheels much better, but I already put on the 18in AMG's. I would love keyless go, but not for $1300. I would love the paddle shifters, but can't get on 4Matic so I guess I am pretty happy with my 09 and $2k savings (just got it May with Euro delivery)
