If you just want over the counter stuff, get Stoner's Tarminator. They sell this at Kragen/Autozone etc

I often have to drive up and down the NJ Tpke and i usually have quite a few of these dead bugs splattered here and there but nothing that a few spritz and a wipe with my detailer spray can't clean off. I have a bottle of Poor Boy's Spray & Gloss in my trunk for such occasions !

If I have a lot of bug explosions, I start by rinsing the car with a strong hose spray a few times before even starting to wash. Every time I rinse a section, I go back around to the front and blast away at it again. I have NEVER had to use bug/tar cleaner or anything stronger than regular wash water...of course, keeping a good wax job helps.

degreaser can strip the wax. If the bugs haven't baked in, regular wash is fine, but if you find yourself scrubbing a bit to get them off, you're introducing fine scratches and swirls. Look at it under fluorescent lighting and you'll see. Clay bar is a great way to get rid of bugs, but a bit more expensive.

My car wash soap of choice is Zaino Z-7.
+1 My routine exactly.

You guys sure overthink this.
I use McGuires car shampoo (amber color) available at quite a few places.
Instead of mixing 1 fluid oz to a gallon of water, mix 2 fluid ozs.
Spray your car with a hose, go over the area the first time with the car shampoo and let it sit for 30 seconds don't rinse, then go over it a second time. I use one of those mitts. By letting the shampoo soak a little, it softens bug goo and makes it a lot easier to rub off on the finish. Also works fairly well on tar but may require a little rubbing.
