Potential Speaker Issue with AUX

Howdy all. As we all know, when playing an ipod through the AUX jack, the sound is dreadfully low. That means that I have the crank the volume up to hear anything. Lately, the volume has been maxing out. Before I could turn it way up until it was so loud I could barely stand it (which by most standards isn't very loud at all). I'm getting concerned that something has tripped in the speaker or that I may have blown something.

Has this happened to anyone else? Each time I've taken the car in for service, I've mentioned to them the irritation of the low volume but they don't offer to do anything other than say that it is what it is...

Just a thought. Since you are using the AUX jack, what happens when you turn up the volume on the ipod itself?

Assuming the AUX jack, ie 3.5mm.

It makes some difference, but I still have to raise the speaker volume a lot to hear the songs. It is even worse when I play my Kindle in the car. I max the volume on the Kindle and then really have to crank the speakers up even more.

Yes, jack is 3.5mm.

I believe there was a post that identified a remedy for low volume; something about an amp that was installed. STFF because I'm too lazy.

Sux because not everyone knows or understand the need to put a descriptive header.

STFF searches more than just headers, it also can STFF within posts. Correct words and 10 seconds later you'll have your answer.

Well, I do know how to STFF, thank you very much! I'm not ignorant about this topic at all. I've had my car for almost 2 years now and as I mentioned, I've discussed this with MB service many times.

I know about the amp -my question was about the speaker and having potentially blown something. I'd hate for this to be the case and I dread the thought of it not being covered under warranty. I think my only hope would be to mention that the low volume is their defect which is only remedied by blasting the speakers... I kinda don't think that I should have to purchase an amp to circumvent their defect...

Probably. But I haven't tried it on my w204. On my RDX, the volume is also pathetically low when using AUX-IN. And yes, I did turn the volume up on the MP3 player.

It only affects playing stuff through the AUX jack. Everything else seems to be OK. When I play anything through the jack, and turn the volume up, the sound isn't what I would consider anything close to quality.
