hmmmmmm

I was just browsing through this forummmmm

and I thought....haha...a 335i v c350 war.

well i shall be honest. never driven a c350. not on offer in australia. we have the c200k, c280, c320cdi, and the c63.

we have plentiful 335s around, which i've driven and is a good car.

i'm not sure how the c350 goes powerwise, but i do know it has the same engine as my slk350.

and based on it's tuning, everytime i've taken on a 335i, it's NEVER won - in fact the difference my mates have noticed, is that in my SLK you feel a push of force that you don't feel in the 335. anyway. it's an SLK so I'm guessing the C class is a little more restrained!

Since you're not in the US, are you sure you don't have an SLK350 WITH 300HP?

135i
i think stock vs stock, there is at least 8 mph difference in the 1/4 mile between the c350, indicative of high end capability - which is huge.

As for the 335i vs is350, here's a direct comparison:

http://www.insideline.com/bmw/3-seri...us-is-350.html

is350 - 1/4 mile (sec. @ mph) 13.8 @ 101.2
335i - 1/4 mile (sec. @ mph) 13.4 @ 103.9
C350 - 1/4 mile (sec. @ mph)14.5 @ 96.5

The C350 is an awesome looking car for sure though..

Oh noes! Not this thread again. Nice to see another 135i owner here, though.

It's established, though. A 335i or 135i will completely destroy a C350.

I'm up to go up against a x35i. I know off the line the x35i will demolish the C350. I think on highway it might too (have never raced on on the highway). If you guys want to end this debate then find someone with a x35i and lets go do some testing of our own.

Let me know.

Karo

P.S. I still think the 335i or 135i will take the C350 on highway but I am willing to be a guinea pig.

Let me tell u one thing from personal experience -

Some people with x35x's, when racing on the highway will not have their traction control off and secondly will start off in 3rd gear. This will totally make the car slow/bog. The preferred option would be to start of in second gear (which goes to like 75) with DTC off. With an 8 mph difference with off vs the C350 stock for stock its really not a small difference..

Nothing against mercedes, i love the cars.. and i really wanted to buy a C63 but couldn't get over the 13mpg lol.

A few different ones
I had an 07 335i prior to the C350 and I found the 335i was quicker throughout the entire range over the C350. I think the 335i was as quick (if not quicker) than my 650i ... that car was such an animal.

OTOH I find the ride of the C350 much more comfortable as the BMW had the hard ride of the runflats. Also I like the MB command system much better then the Idrive though for 2010 the new idrive is excellent.

Best of luck with your new C350, I am very happy with mine and it seems to get better with time

Off topic, but on my 135i (with jb3 set to map 5) i raced a brand new camaro SS from a dig and was about 3.5 car lengths ahead by the beginning of 3rd gear, and was pulling away steadily.. did this 3 times, same result - so not driver error.

Even set to stock map, its very fast, with jb3 its insane.

The 335i has turbos. If you spool them, I think that would make all the difference.

Also you guys are talking apples to apples - automatic to automatic tranny right?

Both my 335i and C350 were automatics

Let me throw a stone in the pond from my racing & dyno days - Experience with BMWs is that they don't need all that many miles on the clock before they are incapable of producing their as new quoted horsepower. Don't believe that some vehicles maintain their quoted output for all that long.

Back from the dead.

All drivers are different

Last night had a chance to go up again a E92 335i. Off the line the car has me (1.5 cars-must be the beautiful torque) all the way till high speeds. From a roll we are neck to neck with him very slowly gaining ahead but still next to me (shut it down close to 110). My estimation (since never been on an engine dyno) is I have 25-30 more horses than a stock C350.

This is my second encounter but my first (after my mods) I quickly pulled 1 car on him and stayed there till 120. Now this might be driver error..wrong gear..although the N54 spools quickly and not a lot of need for brake boosting so my only guess would be wrong gear.

Headers and Tune made 214.7whp on a heart brake dyno roughly around 253whp on a jet.

Before tune I raced a G37 coupe and he had me 1/2 but was slowly starting to pull...now I really don't know what will happen.

I'm telling you guys all this so you guys wont give up. Headers and Tune the car starts to hang with higher HP cars (G37, 335i). I would even recommend just a tune..the car really wakes up...sad part is a tune on the N54 and the car wakes up more

Happy Tuning

I got a c350 and raced a 335 on the lie of ny, and its definetly faster than my car.. 335 didn't lose me like the bently did but 335 is definetly like 3 cars ahead from my c350 going 50+. Its funny how i always choose to race with cars that have more power than mine, hoping they will mess up pfft.. even tho they mess up tho i think they will still burn me.. enough losing lol time to race a civic.. well bottom line is i still love my car..

Good stuff..on street, reaction time is your best friend. The reason I say this is I recently went to an 1/8 mile track and raced an 08 G35 Sedan. My reaction time is what was saving me but he was getting better 1/8 mile times. He was getting low 9 while I ran consistent 9.5. When we left at same time he had a car on me other than that is was the other way around.

When I had just gotten my car I went around looking for some fun. A E90 pulled up next to me, thought it was a 325 or 330 and I knew I could take it. Little did I know it was a 335 and for a second when we took off I thought something was wrong with my car then very quickly I saw the 335i badge

These cars are fun cars, little bit more the w204 compared to the w203. When I had a loaner w204 350 I really enjoyed it. Not as harsh on the bumps, steering wheel nice and soft but at the same time the car could corner and move

Lame how I have to defend my thread when I was just wanting to share my thoughts.

I'm in no way saying my car is faster than the 335i/is350 just sharing my comparison with how the car drives at highway speeds.
+ 1 !! LOLL .... welll, i do think skill is much more important than w/e car u drive. A driver that knows how to shift gear at right RPM can defintely own the driver only shift gear at the peak ( For example: 6500 rpm).

Skill and knowing the car is number 1. A sad but funny story is couple of the MB guys came to the track. One of our friend (member on this board-I won't reveal his name ) drives a 2006 C230 6MT.

You know what he ran an 1/8 mile?? He launched broke traction and couldn't find 2nd (what he claims ) and did an 1/8 mile in 13seconds @ 62mph. This means his car did 0-62 in 13 seconds

I have seen people try to launch in Automatics and do it wrong and their car gets worse times. I've seen people keep in high 5k RPM and think that's their best power. Embarrassed to say I've been almost driving my car for 2 years and didn't know how to drive the car a year ago

The driver does matter big time...some people say what does driver matter in an auto well you'll be surprised. Driver launching, driver being in the right powerband, on a turbo driver brake boosting. A closely matched car any of these techniques will turn around the race. Don't get me wrong I am not claiming I am a professional racer or I am a master when it comes to cars, I'm just saying sometimes what people claim might be true. I claimed I hanged with a G37 and G35 Sedan and people called me out and said it's impossible, I said I hanged with a N54 and people questioned me but it's possible.

Same N54s on same dyno, one does 270 and the other close to 280. Not all cars are the same...just gotta hope your car wasn't built around the time of Octoberfest
