C300 Sport 6MT
New Member -> VAG to MB!
Went from this (well, still have it) and knowing VAG cars inside and out:
To this:
Have been lurking here as well as the Bimmer forums for a few months now to gather as much info as possible. Finally made the jump this past weekend.
To be honest, I was basically ready to buy a 328i M-Sport. Everything changed when I actually test drove the C-Class. It wasn't anything like the Bimmer being the "lesser" car. It was more of the C300 being much better then my pre-conceived notions. Also, having a 6MT was a requirement for me, so I thought I'd already missed the boat w/ finding a manual C300. The 328i w/ M-Sport is a better handling car IMO, but the overall/complete "package" offered in the C was what won it.
Price was naturally a factor as well. I've always purchased my cars during year end clearances, so I hoped MB's incentives would come. Sure enough, Sept. 1st rolls around and I get wind of the $4k on C300's and $5k on C350's. Long-story short, my sales advisor tells me there were only three 6MT's left in the entire Western Region. My dealership just happened to get one of them in a couple days previously on a locate for a customer. That deal fell through so the car was available. I ended up closing the deal 10mins after driving the car and got it for $2500 *under invoice*, including getting the white-capped iPod cable swapped for the black one. Only disappointments, so to speak, were that it was a P1 car w/ no 18" AMG's. Both items easily addressable.
My Passat, albeit highly modified, wasn't over-the-top. I'd almost say everything I did to it basically brought it to the C-Sport's specs outta the box. So, beyond sidemarkers, HID's, and wheels, I'm not sure how much more I *need* to modify this car. Either that or I'm getting old...
This forum, I must say, is full of helpful people and useful information. Thanks!!!

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
OP...welcome. You may get frustrated when it comes to modding this car. There really isn't much engine performance to be gained. It's not bad, but there is little potential for improvement. The sport handles quite well out of the box though. And...RWD beats FWD all day long!
I bought my C to see if I should pursue other MB products (AMG) in the future. So far so good. BTW, 6MT here too!

What I don't see so far is the MB equivalent of the VAG-COM, the Bentley Manual, or even the EKTA parts catalog equivalent. Having those three things for VAG cars meant almost zero trips to the dealer!
Have never had an auto/tip car as my daily driver and prob never will. Yes, DSG/SMG, etc. are faster to shift, but alas, I need to *feel* the engine/revs and decide for myself which gear to engage.
Thanks for the welcome everbody!
