I'm considering swapping out my 18" AMG's and tires.....

...and possibly springs/shocks to get it back to "old person comfort". It is my wifes car and I tricked her into getting the sport package. Now I'm feeling guilty and want her to enjoy a better ride. I'm looking into which parts have to go, and of course it would make sense to trade someone for their parts. This is a new car 2009 C300, 200 miles so far, and would like to hear from someone with similar aged car. I'll know more later on what I need to switch out. Location is San Deigo, and would prefer SoCal area for shipping reasons and also ease of not tying car up too long. Before people go nutz though, it is known that my parts cost more ...so there will have to be some compensation. Respond here or pm.

I have a sport too so I can't help..however..since you're the one asking the favor Im not sure I would have worded that the way you did. I assume you're "compensation" would be for the wheels only? I was unaware other sport parts cost more.

As I said, I'm researching what has to be switched. And yes the option of the 18" AMG's/tires cost me $1,050 I believe. Seeing that I have a C300 and not the C350, I think the springs/shocks are the same as any C300. I f that is true then i would not be messing with those components.

C350 and a Lightning.
If you want to trade straight across, I would do that. I have 9000 miles on my car but my 17" AMG's are in perfect condition.
And, I am in Carlsbad.

No, the C300 sport actually has the same suspension as a C350 so it def will feel a little different than the luxury model.

I think I have made another mistake on the description of the vehicle. I called it the sport model because it has the 18" wheels. I don't see any reference to the "sport" model on the sticker so I'm thinking it is probably a "lux". actually the sticker does not refer to anything but a C300. Is the sport model the manual tranny?

I think all C300s are considered the sports model.

Before you go to a lot of greif, set your tire pressure to the recommended pressure in the driver's door sill. If its overinflated, your ride comfort will suffer.

Just an FYI, the 2009 C300 rides better than the 2008 C300. I've got the 2008 and have driven 2009 loaners. I wish there was some way to change out the components that account for the difference in the ride.

No. All C350s are sport, the C300 comes in Sport and Luxury versions..and they're very different.

If your front end has the Mercedes emblem in the grille it's a sport, if it has a traditional Mercedes grille with an emblem that stand up off the hood then it's a luxury. Sport models come in both manual and auto.

What you nee to get is a loaner while you still have your 2008 at home. Then it is all about swapping out the wheel/tires springs/shocks. I doubt there is anything else.

Are you volunteering to be the lookout?

It would be interesting to find out what the part numbers are between an 08 and an 09 C300 for the springs, shocks/struts.

I think trying to replace the springs would be over the top, but I could see doing the shocks or struts.

So much misinformation.

Your C300 Luxury is not the Sport version and adding 18" wheels doesn't make it one. I have also changed the stock ugly 17s to AMG 18s on my 2008 C300 Lux and found that by reducing the rear tire pressure to 35psi the ride on less than perfect pavement is improved noticeably. If you do this, be sure to reset the tire pressure sensing system.

So, there are no suspension components to "downgrade" to since you already have them.

You could change tire brands if by research you can find quieter ones. Go to tirerack.com and look at their comparison testing.

If you are changing the front struts or springs, it is the same amount of work. In the rear, it is easier to change the the springs. The C300 lux and sport use the same shocks as the C350 (that's how it was when I researched the parts numbers in 2008 anyway). The lux has taller and softer springs. I think the OP would benefit most from getting 17" wheels and softer tires. Then he can proceed from there.

You should be fine just switching to 17s with touring tires like the OE H rated Contis.

Might want to check your tire pressure before doing anything since in my experience every time my car goes to the tire shop and sometimes dealer they over inflate by 10-15 lbs - just trashes the ride
