Exclamation UMI (Universal Media Interface): Is this the best deal?

Found one here for $1350. http://www.genuinemercedesparts.com/...catalogid=6945

All the dealers here in Vancouver are quoting $1900 + install of 4 hours @ 120 per hour!
So $2666 after tax! but they will install one that I have sourced elsewhere.

Even at that price i'm wondering if its worth it

I had the UMI installed in August :

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-pictures.html

I really like it. The navigation is nice, I love having full control and display of my Ipod on the nav screen, but the best thing is being able to add a bunch of music to a USB thumb drive.

The original quoted price was $1700 for the unit and $400 for the installation.

The dealer matched the online wholesale price ( the same link you posted ) of $1350 for the unit and discounted the install $150 ( they had my car for 6 days ! ) for a grand total of $1660 ( they charged me $60 more than the original quote for some reason ).

Any questions, let me know...

Nick

I assume you are quoting Canadian $. Even so it is a little higher than I paid a couple of months ago. I paid $2,000 (US) plus tax of $140.

If you have your dealer install the one from the link, you will get quite a good deal but will there be warranty issues?

The UMI itself has been worth it to me. The Nav is great and the number of media sources you can use with it are too.

My only complaint is that the volume on the IPOD/IPHONE interface doesn't match the other sources. You have to turn up the head unit volume to get an acceptable level and then remember to turn it back down if you change sources. This is the same problem the original MMI systems had but they can be fixed with an inline amp (I think at no cost). The UMI cannot.

I have the same issue with the volume level and my UMI / Ipod. It doesn't bother me too much as long as I remember to turn the volume down when switching from the Ipod to Sirius ( I never listen to CD's or to the radio ).

I did talk to the dealer about the amp, but dfordham is correct, it does not work with the UMI. Also, it was not a "free" solution to the problem with the MMI - you do have to pay for the amp ( at least that's what this dealer said )

Hope that helps...

Nick

Depends on your music requirements. I opted not to get the OE system and enjoy Sirius and my top of the line $500 Garmin nav system, which goes with me when I travel. As I don't use an Ipod or need to connect any other music source, that extra $2000 sure felt good going somewhere else! BTW, if you get the lifetime Sirius subscription, the amortized price really drops if you keep the car long enough....under $8/month just after the fourth year.

Nick,

Which dealer in Chicago did you go to? I service my car from the dealer in Naperville or Hoffman Estates.
