Heel-Toe Under Braking and Downshifting

Has anyone other than me fiddled around with applying throttle a fraction of a second after selecting a lower gear?

Takes a bit to get the timing down with the electronics, but once you do I feel like I get a much smoother and faster switch from gear to gear...

(I'm waiting for the crazy comments to pour on - don't knock it till you try it)

Rev matching with tip/stepronic cars is pretty decent these days. When I test drove an auto C300 in "S" mode, it seemed to match fairly well. Then again, I didn't do any banzai late braking/downshifting. My pet-peeve w/ step transmissions is with the lag between when I told it to shift and when it actually did it. For the C, again, it wasn't bad, but there was still some lag. I would think that blipping the throttle would help with smoothing things out, but not with the lag. Very interesting if it really does!

Another round of ICE
I blip the throttle on almost all downshifts, but then again, I have a manual and learned double-clutching when I started driving in the last century.

i tried rev matching and you need to get used to it bc of the electronics in our cars. I did it a few times when down shifting and it shifts smoother

Blipping the throttle on the Benz is a little harder than most as the lag slows things up and makes the timing a little tougher.
As far as actual heel and toeing, I can't do it on the C...the bottom hinged accelerator is just to to high in comparison the the brake pedal...my ankle just doesn't seem to be hinged well enough to let me do it not too mention there is just not enough room for my size 12s in there...
Can any manual drivers here properly heel and toe in there C300??

Mechanically, I've been able to do it no problem because I've always done it "backward" compared to the traditional positioning of the foot. That is, I brake w/ the arch/ball of my foot and angle my foot to the right in order to blip the throttle. Graphically, it's "/" vs "\" (crude depiction, I know) where you brake with the ball/toes and then blip w/ the heel.

The C, however, doesn't blip the revs very quickly, which is something I'm still getting used to. There are only a couple corners during my commute that I even do it, so definitely not a "need" to H'n'T.

You're quite right that the accelerator and brake are on different enough planes that actual heel and toeing, with a roll of the ball of your right foot onto the brake, while the lateral edge of the foot blips the throttle, is not possible. I enjoy double clutching for the fun of it, and just move my size 12 right foot more quickly heading into a turn.

I can't move my heel the way Doanster describes, however. I get a cramp.

I don't have a problem from a movement standpoint...I will agree however that the spacing isn't ideal

In terms of getting the type of RPM increase you have to be sure to really depress the gas pedal as much as possible during that short period of time...

Took me a while to get used to the throttle modulation characteristics - not rev friendly..
