Is there such a thing as a good after market sun roof? Everyone I have seen ended in failure. I would not consider it for a car I cared about.
I agree...there is no good solution. In addition to the obvious quality concerns, realize that OE sunroofs typically have drainage through the A-pillars which I've not seen matched by an aftermarket supplier. Side impact load paths include the B-pillar, which is attached to (say it with me).....THE ROOF! Roof crush is also determined based on the structure as designed, built, and certified by the manufacturer, which includes structures such as cross car bows under the sheetmetal. How would an aftermarket roof interfere with those structures? The vehicle is a system and overall performance in impacts assumes the original vehicle integrity.
Lastly, I would strongly doubt that the testing and process control of the OEs can be matched by a local installer....wind and water leaks!!!!!!! To be blunt...forget about a sunroof until your next car.
