I don't recall my registration being that bad. I think I renewed for 2 years and paid like $125 to keep the old plates and renew for 2 years, or $150 to get the new (New York) plates. But since I didn't like the yellow ones, I decided to keep mine.
As far as all the other talks go, NY is DEFINITELY one of the most expensive states as far as Insurance and property taxes, etc, go. On our house in Long Island we pay roughly $30,000/year in property tax ($26,000 + $4,000 town fees). So I don't think any other state is anywhere close to this. And its not even like we have an estate, it is a relatively large house (8 people in my family), but definitely NOT one of the larger ones in the neighborhood.
As far as insurance goes, we have 2 w204's, one escalade, and one SL500. The Sl500 is a 2005 and is by FAR the cheapest to insure (go figure! - $1,200/year), then comes the 2 w204 ($2,000/year each), and lastly the Escalade ($2,800/year). Not to sure on home insurance or other costs.

You pay less than $610 for house rent per month?!?!?! I'm living in the wrong place... Where I live you can't find a shack for less than $1,000 a month, and it isn't anywhere near as nice or new as I'm sure Vegas houses are...

That is why we have several States and the framers of our Constitution made sure that it stays that way. If you don't like your local state government, you can move to another state that you can prosper and contribute at the same time. CA is losing revenue because of higher taxes! Why you may ask? Practically, businesses are moving out of CA and moving to more friendly business environment state. Individuals are doing the same thing. CA is now getting less and less revenue but the expenses are increasing. Sounds familiar?
