$465 For C350 Registration in California for 2010, OUCH! WTF

Man, I knew vehicle registrations were going to go up in California because of the fact that the state is bankrupt basically and in 10s of billions of debt and they tried to piece together some BS budget to make up the shortfalls...

but..... I did not think my registration was going to increase $150 from the previous year!!!!!!!!!!! WTF, $150??? From $314 to $464??? it's not like my car is an appreciating asset, sure is being treated like one though... It probably depreciated 5-7 grand in that same year, but instead I get to pay $150 more for living in the great state of california... NOT!

Anybody else with a 2008 c350 pay $464? It should be a pretty standard amount and should not vary per vehicle that is the same model year correct???

I wasn't even that pissed when I heard the DMV fees were increased and not even that pissed when I paid the $464 last week online... It was only when I went to swap the registration slips out in my glove box tonight since I got the new one in the mail today, that I actually saw the difference between the two years @ $150 which just got me ticked since that seems like a pretty god dam steep increase... I was expecting more like 50-60 dollar increase... $150 is just insane...

F U California... It would be interesting to have others post what their c350 was registered for in different states to compare... Please post!

The average NJ car registration is $80-$90 a year vs. $464 in Cali.
But we do pay much more then that difference with the highest real estate taxes in the country.

i couldnt agree with you more my friend. the states problems are it own. if you or i were not able to pay our mortgage or my car payment or even child support, the state wouldnt jump in to support us. if anything we would be contact to pay or else. . . The states problem is it own, just as each of our own financial responsibilities are our own; no one else!

the increase is unfair and unjustified. a few days ago i paid a fine in cali for blackout lights and window tint . . . non corrected $ 296.00. i called to pay and the lady informs me there is additional $ 35.00 charge. wtf???? i told her i paid the same amount for exact same charges last month (dont ask . . . number 4) and now that the state is in a pickle we must all pay???

it simply doesnt add up . . . + 2, F U CALIFORNIA

I feel for you guys in Cali. I think our registration is only around $50 or so... But then again we pay ~$5000/yr property tax for a 350k house. Of course a 350k house here is probably 5 mil in the ridiculous Cali world of real estate.

Also, I just got my car registration thing in the mail..I think it was $75ish.

I am in PA. Here it all depends on the school district you live in. We live in one of the cheapest districts in the state. If you move into the City of Pittsburgh / Allegheny County the same house triples property tax along with title xfers, and wage tax. Plus you get to pay an extra 1% sales tax so they can pay for the nice new stadiums.

I was thinking PA was the only place that bent you over on property / school taxes. Guess not.

The schools here are like..outrageously overfunded. For example, the highschool has an indoor football training facility that the Dallas cowboys have used for practice because it's so huge/impressive. That's on top of a new outdoor stadium better than better than what a majority of colleges have. Mind you this is a small town of maybe 30k residents.

It would be awesome if I was benefiting from it, but I'm in college..ah well, I dont' pay taxes anyway..haha

yeah, we do get raped on registration fees, but grand scheme of things, everything pretty much evens out when you consider all other fees and taxes we pay comparatively.

CA Property values are still relatively high compared to most parts of the country though.

We'll go with a nice even $600,000. Here that gets you a 5,000 square foot home with a pool and a home theatre in a gated subdivision. In Orange county $600k gets you what..a decent townhome? lol

It gets even better..up in my college town (way cheaper) my parents bought my brother and I a 3,300 square foot 5 bedroom new construction home in a nice neighborhood with community pools etc just 5 mins from campus..for like $250k. Cant beat that!

I do know CA has dropped some since I was last there though.

yeah, it has dropped some, but still stupidly expensive compared to the rest of the country. Everyone loves our 70 degree winters I guess. lol.

yeah, you're not kidding about 5-600k townhomes in OC. Sure you can find cheaper, but you're living the the more ghetto areas. I remember checking out properties in Texas and nearly broke down in tears. Man, you guys get huge palatial spreads for dirt cheap

CA needs an earthquake along the faults to separate it from the rest of CONUS. The way they are charging for things you'd think they are a separate country, not connected. Who cares about the weather; mud slides, fires, no water, happy cows tanning on the beaches, etc.

registration fees/vehicle property tax is what it is, where it is... and i don't have any beef with it as I know u gotta have the "pay to play" mentality if you driving a new benz..

my main beef is with the $150 increase from one year to the next, just aint right on principles...

Then they'd jack up the prices even more as there'd be a new coast along the water to justify increase

You must live in McLean, VA. That seriously sucks that they tax you on a car you already own and paid taxes on.

Then start paying for shipping like we do in Hawaii? We get destroyed here.

Im glad I moved out of the United States 15years ago. Love my country but hate every single aspect of United States laws, rules & regulations. That said, the government.

Depends. In the upscale Dallas burbs it's not quite as cheap. Example..the Jonas Brothers bought a house not far from my parents. It's a nice house..like 7,000 square feet..but its in a subdivision and doesn't have a significant amount of land and they paid close to $3 million.
