opinion: Good buy? Or wait

Hi folks,

Today afterwork I figured I would go snoop. As of recent, my local FORD dealership has had this benz up on display spinning... Didnt think anything of it.

Well, I went into there tonight and low and behold. Its a 2008 C350 Sport with Multimedia.. maybe even P2? and has AMG wheels.

I thought it was a C300 the whole time.

Anyways, I get there. Sticker was $34,990 -- I said okay, what can we do? Favorite color btw.

Alpine white, With black interior.

dealership is giving me $4,500 trade for my lincoln LS V8 Sport Pkg with 106k on clock. -- I'll still be upside down 3,800k though.

Took price down to $30k... and I think they even took another grand off that. As they want the car gone.

Monthly payment would be $650... That is quite a bit to swallow to be honest in my opinion.

However, If you are still reading.. I get home and check autotrader.. Car is listed for $32,800 -- So I think I will go back and re-negotiate. As I told them to run my credit app.

The car: <a href="http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=271240868&dealer_id=824000&car _year=2008&rdm=1259909164682&lastStartYear=1981&mo del=C350&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&highlightF irstMakeModel=&start_year=2008&keywordsfyc=&keywor dsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=f alse&search_type=both&distance=200&marketZipError= false&search_lang=en&showZipError=y&make=MB&keywor ds_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aisp searchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDES C&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_typ e=priceDESC&address=32137&advanced=&end_year=2009& doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=3&standard =false">2008 C350 Sport - 29,800 miles</a>
The guy who traded it in, Is actually local business guy Who I know.

More notes: While driving the car.. Felt a little sluggish throughout gears, even in sport mode and manual shifting. I think it was running regular fuel rather than premium.

Another note: Front passenger seat motor seemed to be broke -- Seat would not move much at all.

I have also just found another one, which is Silver in color. All Same options but LOWER miles, with same E-Price.

Opinions please?

I would wait. I bought my C350 for $35000 exc tax and licensing and it's an 09. It has P2 and MM. The MSRP was $45,300 and after I bought it, another dealer offered $15,000 off MSRP. Dealerships are getting desperate these days. Trying to meet quotas and such. Like you said, they want it gone so you should definitely try to wear em down.

Thank you, a good point you have made. That has also been in the back of my head. As Ive been seeing CPO'd 2009's for close to same price

only downfall of the 2009's, is no more folding mirrors =(.. Unless we can retro fit?

I'm going to see if they will go under to 31,990 on the car. As the E-price is 32,880.

Should I be concerned about the sluggishness? Or maybe the previous owner was very easy on the car, and the computer took too it. Also, About the seat!

i agree with snarling, the dealers are deperate. i got a steal on my 08 c350 with 7000 miles. if you find more problems thats less $$ they will see. most things you find wrong (seat motor etc) should be covered by MB warranty. i would check with the local MB dealer for clarification.

good luck!

I pretty much agree with what everyone else said. Wait. Hold out and while you're waiting try and pay down your car so you won't be so upside down when you trade it in. That's a lot of negative equity to be bringing to the table.

And is the rate high because my '08 bought new costs me under $600/mo. Used car rates should be around 7% right now depending where you're at.

2008 C350 Sport
I was in a similar spot as you when I bought my 2008 C350 Sport three weeks ago. I lost a little under $4K on my trade and got the C350 for $30,900. I ended up getting a loan for a little over $34K. My C has 23K miles and was in very good condition, nearly excellent condition minus the dreaded scraped front bumper... In hindsight I would have shot them an offer of $28K since my C doesn't have the MM package, just Ipod and AMG wheels. This is a buyer's market, you are probably stuck on your trade but if they will sell you the C350 for $28K you won't lose as much on the trade and won't have to finance as much. I'm guessing they'd take that offer if they truly want the car gone.

The problems you find on the C are minor and still covered under warranty. I had to have the mirrror turn signal covers replaced on my C as they had some water condensation due to poor seals or something. Sounds like you could possibly get a very good deal! Remeber you're in the driver's seat, so to speak, and tell the dealer what you want to do. I too like the folding mirrors of the 2008 model, it is so cool in my opinion and really handy at ATMs and parking in my garage.

everyone -- Thank you for your insightful information.

I called dealership back and said no deal. As they would not go any lower.

here is what they did... Kept the price at $34,990 as it was on the lot -- They would NOT do the e-price for me.

However, They said they would get me 6500 for my car for trade. And that would be applied ofcourse. SO it almost equals out the same. I personally would want the e-price with the 4,500 trade and or less. As I have warranty repairs.

In the end, Price was $650/mo for 75 months @ 7.5 percent interest.

Yes, The problems would be warranty -- as it has existing 50k.

Sidenote: Purchasing extended warranty from my auto loan "VyStar" Is that plausable?

My plan is to get 2-3 more months of payments. And keep on looking for a similar value. Maybe I will get lucky and find one with less miles at next time of purchase. My goal is to get payment to about 550-575 monthly.

I have also considered a 2009 BMW 335i COUPE with navi --- You guys might bash me for this =P

Second, CAN the 2009 mirrors be replaced with the 2008 model mirrors? Or will the computer not recognize.

What to pay?

......everyone -- Thank you for your insightful information.<<Big snip>>> However, They said they would get me 6500 for my car for trade. And that would be applied ofcourse. SO it almost equals out the same. I personally would want the e-price with the 4,500 trade and or less......

If your state allows a trade-in sales tax credit, have you calculated this against the final sales tax amount?

...... The problems would be warranty -- as it has existing 50k...

The original MB warranty will be transferred to you. 4yr/50K.

Sidenote: Purchasing extended warranty from my auto loan "VyStar" Is that plausable?

I would not buy an extended warranty from anybody but MBUSA but given the excellent reliability of the W204 and whether you will keep the car after the factory warranty expires should be considered.

<<Another snip>>

Second, CAN the 2009 mirrors be replaced with the 2008 model mirrors? Or will the computer not recognize?

All of the W204 mirrors are interchangeable but the US 2008 is the only one with the needed wiring and control panel. Those parts can be added but you are talking about a big expense.

I have the original folding mirrors in Barolo Red from my 2008 which I'd love to sell but the wiring and control panel on the door would have to be added.
