If you are looking at only the "204" it is 1 in 999. If you are adding the 6 to the equation, it is 1 in 9999.

This thread reminds me off an old Oldsmobile Ciera I used to see parked downtown Charleston, SC with "911 GTR"...it was totally luck of the draw for this car but it made me laugh everytime I saw it.

The first part of the plate series is irrelevant...note it's even covered up. There is only one occurrence of the three digit number "204" in a sequential series of three digit groupings. Those groupings can only go as high as 999, therefore, the chance of the combination of three digits in that sequence (2-0-4) occurring in a series of three digit numbers is one in 1,000 because 0-0-0 is also a possibility.

Thanks - took statistics and understand probability quite well...

I don't know which picture you are looking at but there is clearly a 6 at the beginning which is not covered up...(6 cyl engine + 204)

so take your original answer and * by 10..

i will repeat - the chances are 1 in 10000 (4 numbers)

OK....our thought processes are similar. I considered the 6 as irrelevant as not part of the "204" platform identification of the vehicle, or even adjacent to the "204" placement on the plate. If the 6 is supposed to have some meaning, such as cylinder count, my analysis falls short...I probably would have given some consideration if it were a "W", but then we'd be dealing with a universe of 26 for that character!

Wayne State University in Detroit, with intended proximity to the auto industry, which, 30 years later looking back....worked as planned.

Nice! I'm looking forward to finishing as well...

As to the road ahead, time will tell - but I hope my story has a similar ending!

Will be going back to my family's stores and can't wait - love the business as well!
